I wish I'd gone for the 5 year warranty but I'm desperate that the R comes out next year so that I can trade it in. The only issue I have with the car is it's too easy to sit there with the wheels spinning, not going anywhere and I think awd will fix that. I'll be wandering back to VW with the car and likely a very large cheque if they do bring it out.

I hope this starting issue is simple to fix. At the very least I'd be requesting a warranty extension or free breakdown cover. For me in your situation it's the worry or failure that is a prime concern.
Ah that's not bad at all! This one definitely isn't an oil burner, they have already given me free breakdown cover, and I still have 2+ years left on the warranty which is plenty as I'll probably be looking for something else in a year or two.

I'm interested in the R too, I like the look of the S1, but I'll probably go for something a bit bigger next time, possibly an S3 or something similar.

So its been a little while since I updated this, after 4 Polo's (2 being GTI's) I have decided to go with something a little different. I'm now doing a lot more millage than I first was when I got the GTI due to work and moving house, as such I had put on 20k milage on the car since I got it, so I needed something with lower running costs and a bit more comfortable to drive than the Polo, so I'm now the proud owner of this beauty...

Its only a 118D 145hp, so 35 less than the Polo but loads more torque and since I spend most of my time on the motorway thats what matters. The car is specced up to high heavens and is such a nice place to be, in the corners its incredible, much more planted than the Polo!

Also going from doing 300 miles to a tank to over 500 is nice too! This thing sips fuel compared to the GTI.

Looks really good! I'm also considering trading in my terrible GTI for a BMW.. Maybe a 2 series. The GTI is so much fun to drive, but with it currently in having its second engine stripped down and potentially replaced, it's a terrible thing to own. :(
