Had to replace the front left ABS sensor , because the system got activated randomly while breaking. Sometimes the warning light turned on. Used vagcom to read the error. Sensor was rusty all the way to its internals. Hard to get out and the new one (Bosch) didnt even fit without modifying it. It was 0.15mm thicker than the original ATE. I was wondering whether the bad sensor could also have been activating the ESD while driving.
I think I'm going to replace the front right as well because it's condition probably isn't much different from the other one.

I had exactly the same problem about a month ago and the new one had to be modified to fit

The Bosch one is 16 eur, an original 36 eur. I dont mind sanding half an hour for 20 eur

So my front frenders are getting really rusty. I'll get a used one tonight in the right color LC9Z. Need a hood as well, but these are rare. What needs to be done to change the fenders?

Okay. In that case I will be able to repair one of my headlight washers as well. Someone hit my bumper and the top cover of the right washer broke of. It is functional though but having a hole in your bumper looks ugly.

Do you know what part needs to be replaced in this case, the entire washer or is the top cover some separate part?

Seems I got myself the wrong front fenders/wings. Maybe it's a difference between 5 / 3 door models.
Big sigh....

No difference between 3 and 5. The difference is whether they have the sill extension or not

Top cover is replaceable but it depends if the pins that hold it in place have been snapped which means a new washer unless you can repair it

Too bad, it's a nice one.
But I have been told also that GTI fenders are 5mm eh 0.2inch wider. You need gti fenders or the wheels won't properly fit.

I called the VW dealer and he told me because we passed June 2016, they no longer have supplies for the car. (They must supply parts for 15 years) but he managed to order the top cover at their VW Classics departement  . It is not painted though, he said.

That's not true. The TDI and 16V wings are the same :)

It's the sill extension part that identifies them as the 8v models have it and 16v models don't

I trust your judgement in 6n2 matters better than anyoneelse Alex  . Unless it's about LHD specifics  .

Although... who said GTIs with genuine beige leather interior do not exist?

Yup just needs a cover

Get a spray paint kit from the dealer and a can of primer. You can have it painted in a day :)
