Haha, I'm test driving my mates vRS this week to see how I get on with them!
Right, time to give a proper update!
The winters are now on. I decided to keep the Cups in the end and refurb them myself.
I had the tyres stripped and accessed them, in short they were f**ked!
The polished lips were something chronic, I came up with all sorts of creative ways into sanding them down, but thought I'd hand sand them first to see how long it would take.
Turns out there was a thick layer of salt or something on them, and it came off really easily!
It only took half hour to sand each one down in the end,
Once prepped I applied primer
First coat:
Second coat:
Sanding with wet 1200 in between:
Did 3-4 coats of primer, then applied paint.
I've always liked dark wheels on a black car, but black on black looks odd to me as soon as the car gets a bit dirty (as the wheels become darker than the paintwork!).
I opted for a dark graphite grey instead, which I think came out great!
Please forgive the poor white balance on the next two images, these are straight from my phone!
Before vs after
I then applied a few coats or laquer, bought two new 165/50 bridgestones, some metal valves, and off to my mates for fitting they went!
The car hadn't been cleaned for longer than I care to admit, so I spent the day sorting it out for winter.
I washed, clayed, washed, polished, glazed, waxed.
I clayed using Sonus Ultra fine clay.
Polished using Poorboy's SSR2, and glazed using Poorboy's Black Hole. I applied both using a finishing pad on my Kestral DA.
For wax I used good old Collinite 476s.
Gave the interior and door hinges a good clean also, and gave the wheels two coats of Poorboy's Wheel Sealant!
