Re: Using Oil!
Oil is sitting around 3/4 up the hatched area. Will continue to watch it and see how it goes.
Re: Using Oil!
Sounds like an improvement, but not as much as I expected. Assuming of course it started off at max level.stuart.cameron wrote:Oil is sitting around 3/4 up the hatched area. Will continue to watch it and see how it goes.

Re: Using Oil!
To be honest I didn't check it when I got it back from the garage.
Re: Using Oil!
I had the pipe replaced last week, but have just received a call from the dealer saying the software wasn't updated
Does anybody know what the software update does, as previous posts have mentioned performance reductions.
I was wondering if I can get away without this been done but I am not sure if it might be an integral part of the fix as my boot lid is again getting black and sooty

Re: Using Oil!
I ordered the pipe, paying it (63€) because I'm within the consumption tolerances, I've asked what the software update actually change: nobody knows...!foggy69 wrote: Does anybody know what the software update does, as previous posts have mentioned performance reductions.

That's the jointly answer from VW Italy and the dealer (sorry for possible mistakes, I'm using Google translator):
Good evening,
as you hear it repeat the instructions in our possession tell us to update the software of the control unit together with the replacement of the vent, the manufacturer does not provide detailed analysis of the changes that the new software makes the previous version.
The parameters that are varied can not be the ones that are marked on the vehicle registration document (engine power) but at the same time having to act on the quality of the oil can not be excluded that some of the fuel injection parameters are not changed, of course, every change is made with the intention of improving the overall quality of the product.
I remain at your disposal but unfortunately I can not respond in detail to your question and totally exhaustive.
I think I'll install the pipe without the software update...!
.
Re: Using Oil!
Thanks for the info kawabanga.
I think I will leave the update for now, and see if the soot on the boot lid clears up and oil consumption decreases.

Re: Using Oil!
So are the new cars/ new software slower?
Re: Using Oil!
No - I am reliably informed that the ECU will need to re-adapt for the first 100-200 miles, so it could feel 'flat' initially, as the engine characteristics would have changed slightly. Once the ECU re-adapts you would not notice any difference.POLOGTI2011 wrote:So are the new cars/ new software slower?
Re: Using Oil!
This German user, after pipe changing, has used 1/4 liter per 1.000Km instead of 1 liter...
1 liter per 4.000Km is still high though...

Re: Using Oil!
Many thanks Kawabanga, that is a big improvement though, but yes - that is still a lot more than I expected. I don't think it will get any better than that, and after all VW would just point us to the page in the handbook that states the engine may use 1 litre per 2000 km (1,250 miles).kawabanga wrote:This German user, after pipe changing, has used 1/4 liter per 1.000Km instead of 1 liter...

My car is due for the oil pipe breather change next week!
Re: Using Oil!
Bad news from this German user: 1liter per 1700Km after the pipe modification...

Another bad new from Italy, Ibiza's user: 1 liter per 2.000K, exactly as before the modification:

Re: Using Oil!
My car is booked in tomorrow for high oil consumption
It got better for a few 1000 miles and barely used any. Now it's used 3 lites in 2400 miles

Re: Using Oil!
I don't want to be hearing these stories, I assume George you have had the fix done. The word I had from VW technical was that the breather pipe is the definitive fix, and the early signs were promising.George H wrote:My car is booked in tomorrow for high oil consumption

I am just about to get the fix done and I had high hopes that this would fix it once and for all.
Re: Using Oil!
Not had the fix done.. I've told them I want it doing. Hopefully they will get it sorted finally.skipster wrote:I don't want to be hearing these stories, I assume George you have had the fix done.
