Nice one Tim. I'm glad you've got it sorted now. Three cheers for Hombase! Did you get that reducer from Homebase that I mentioned to you on MSN or did you just go for the duct tape option?

What you need now is a nice scoop for the cold air feed, where it attaches to the bumper. Again, Homebase saved me here. I bought one of those mini drain pipe water collector jobbies to act as a scoop and it does the job really well. Also neatens the job up, rather than just having a pipe poking out of the bumper. I can get a few pics of it if you want, if you don't know what I mean.

the 3 x 60mm bolts, is this instead of the studs?

yea had to resort to tape as homebase didnt have a large enough reducer. Got the scoop in place, see pics, would be interested to see your cold air feed chris

You'll have to either paint it black or wrap more black tape on to disguise it and stop it looking barry :)

Seeing as most of my lower bumper is hidden by foglamps, anyone know how to get rid of the baffling behind the radiator grille? There's..... plastic stuff.... to the right of the radiator proper that certainly blocks light passing thru the grille and therefore probably air as well. Be nice to just be able to take that out, mesh it up, and attach the cold air scoop there instead of having to dick about attaching stuff to the space between the fogs somehow (also baffled if i remember right!) :D

tahrey: you are right on it being a bit obvious but at the moment i justify it by saying it has a purpose and makes a difference. Chris has made a scoop for his using some drain collector stuff which i will be doing once i see his pics of what he has done. As for the barry stuff, people can think what they want. In my heart i am comfortable with my car and thats what matters to me. :-)

As for the radiator baffle, thats an insulator to stop all the air to the side heating up and being drawn back into the engine.
You may have to find a different way of gettting cold air in if you remove that.

We are talking about the bit of plastic that sits where you have your cold air feed OM? If so best put mine back before I put the thing on the road. I took that off, and the bit of plastic that block the grille up too. Hmmmmm :oops:

I think theres some crossed wires here, the plastic bit can be taken out but the radiater baffle to the left of the platic is the insulation. i understood it as the baffle.

i got fed up with the K&N as it seemed to be dramatically underpowered. Have gone with a company called s-spec and using a 90mm induction pipe of a ford, a cold air feed from a rover diesel and a rainwater hopper from homebase have completed my induction kit.

these s-spec bits are rather good! such an mprovement in torque over the K&N however sceptic i was at first.

hehe the barry poke was just a bit of fun - it was possibly the most opposite of any barry thing (looks poor, but does a great job - rather than back to front)... just a bit ugly, thats all :)

not sure what you're on about with radiator baffles and all that! I just know that if i crouch and try to look into my engine bay thru the grille, even with the bonnet up, it's just black - there's something in the way and that's gonna hurt any chances of running a scoop there. cant see as removing whatever part that is would blow hot air onto/into the engine...

will you/have you popped a diverter pipe on the warm air manifold thingum to direct all that nasty stuff away behind the gearbox as i've seen on someone else's inducted polo?

looks like a top job anyway, big up.... how much did the bits cost for your variation on this theme btw? if i'm ever gonna do it, may as well go for something that gives a better boost than k&n / green.. only money after all :roll:

(eek - website proudly claims, exclusively distributed by halfords in the uk :D )

I think the thing in the way tahrey1043 is the radiator cover thingy, i had to remove mine to get the twin spot grill on and now i can see through the grill. car runs a bit cooler on hot days now so it must be letting a bit of air through.

The parts I removed were the piece of plastic to the left hand side of the lower vent. I did this once I removed the bumper to a:have it painted, and b:get it meshed. The other part I removed was a square bit of plastic to the left of the grille. This opens up a few holes in the grille to the left of the radiator. I thought removing this would allow the car more cold air, so I hope it doesn't have any negative affects.

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but I don't suppose anyone's tried this on a mk2, or if anyone knows if it's pretty much the same fitments on a carb as on the mk3 throttle body? Just getting ideas for future improvements.. more power and nicer noise are both good.. apart from anything else, my engine makes a horrible whiney noise and I really would like to improve that :)
