No, you have to tell them. However some companies will not increase the policy if its within 2".
Shame on the situation mate, how long into the years free insurance are you?

I've got until September! :/ absolutely gutted had a long back and forth with the underwriter today (she's a right cow) they can't give any proper answers to me, my point was if I'd selected 17inch wheels as an option if still be covered so why if I put them on afterwards are they not allowed? If they said ok fine but they have to be vw supplied and fitted that would be ok and I'd leave it at that (or buy new wheels

) however it's just the whole grey area and there arrogance that annoys me.
Been looking at insurance quotes today and if I jump policies and leave the NCB I will have earned my insurance increases by £1000! So I'm stuck for now.
At first the advisor said if its the same rolling rotational value or something it's ok, then I asked about springs and she had to ask the underwriter who just gave a blank clear no wheels but suspensions ok... And then later in an email said no mods at all!! What a joke eh?
On a separate note cars booked in to have the wind noise/ door alignment work to be done on Tuesday - vw said if they don't find a fault ill be charged £65 ha I'd like so see them make me pay that haha

They can't charge you for having a look at a car that's a year old! They did mine for nothing whilst cocking up the door handle when aligning it!

So just a small update...
I got a small victory with the insurance who have allowed me to have different wheels providing they are Volkswagen...
VW motorsport 17s
Found a bargain online £300 excellent condition couldn't say no really.
So on they went
Then off the back one came

flat tyre
Drums need something doing with them
Then...
Off came the front - flat tyre 3 days later haha
However as of now all is well, have noticed a considerably different driving experience. It's still a 60ps but it moves a lot better and feels a bit more sporty (not much) but I like it.
I'm becoming more increasingly drawn to the idea of a vinyl wrap :/ even the mrs didn't say no haha. I think ill stick to my original shopping list for now + a splitter and put the wrap on the back burner.

Cheers fella, I saw it and thought "he should put same wheels as mine on" haha there's some nice looking motors on there.
You just reminded me! I went to vw about the door alignment and the squeaky suspension
"Alignments and lubrication isn't under warranty" said the vw mechanic (technician) he said the doors could do with adjusting but it's out of the 30days pfffft! £65 he quoted me
The guy was alright he unofficially advised me to complain and see if vw would authorise it directly. Said he liked the wheels too haha!

I said that! He said he's thinking of spraying his black because of insurance, he's 17 so it's a killer at the moment.
That's really odd, I remember CANDYMAN saying something about a time limit but when I asked my dealer to sort it they obliged, in fact it's in right now to get the door removed and realigned properly. For free. I think it maybe to do with the dealer? We have been going to the same one for like 17 years haha. They said that all they do is move the lock catch further in so the door has to travel in more, closing the gap, you could probably do it yourself as its only one star screw? Stuck in a Candy White 60PS 1.2 Match, oh how I love the smell of burning clutches. Does smell this come as standard? Because my old 6R 1.2 did the same thing but the TDI doesn't do it at all.

Small update on the car, would show pics but having an issue with tapatalk :/ last week nearly crashed when my steering failed basically turning a corner and the hydro electric motor just stopped working drove a bit further pulled in light was on dash (little yellow steering wheel) stayed on for a while... Got home rang VW no availability for weeks thought pfft so rang VW assist they sent a "genius" out said couldnt find any errors logged by the cpu as it wasn't doing it. Gave me a slip and said if it happens again give it to vw so nothing for a few days until today when it's come on and stayed on. Someone said vw will look at it and say it's a sensor that's faulty but actually it's the motor that powers it? I have no idea but he said it's faulty and shorting out which tricks the system into thinking it's a faulty sensor he said get it into vw whilst it's under warranty so it's due in Thursday morning. I'll see what the guys say hopefully no fob off stories.

Update on the polo ... After sending it in and the guy having to send a LOG to vw regarding the fault (assume it's a computer log and not one he layed whilst driving the car and the steering failing on him haha) basically the car requires a new hydraulic pump/ motor and a wiring loom. One of the parts is ok to source but the other is on back order from vw UK who are trying to special order one from Germany... Dealers say they haven't got any idea at all how long it will be and she adv it may be a while. I'm in a polo courtesy car which has done 2000 miles so it's not too bad I guess, just a pain being without my own.
Anybody else had similar experiences with time delay or same fault?
Updates on car before fault have been...
Since new wheels:
Xenon bulbs
Mats
Wind deflectors
End of Sept will be coilovers
Undecided wether to go for FK or AP
AP say 5 yr warranty
But FK seem more popular
Will get some new pics up once it's been dropped (& fixed)
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4

Regarding back order for parts, several years ago I had a polo from new and after about a year a suspension part failed, due to a supplier going out of business VW UK couldn't source the part and VW Germany or wherever they were being made at the time wouldn't release any parts as they wanted them for new builds. VW had my polo for over 3 months! However I couldn't fault them, they gave me a brand new Golf GT as a loan car (which i put over 5000 miles on!) and when I got my polo back they paid all my fuel costs I had incurred in that time as the polo was diesel, the golf petrol, on top of that a £300 goodwill gesture and extended my warranty by 3 months!
