- Remove and isolate (do not cut) the blue/white T12/8 wire from the yellow connector.
- Temporarily remove the Chinese emulator...
- The white and "green" T5/4 wire is intriguing... , from the pictures it seems to be connected to the white and blue wire. Check if it is well spliced.

According to ETKA, 6R0 or 6RU937087F BCMs are older than 2015, so theoretically they should not support button illumination... Check it out.

Post a scan with the current BCM coding.
Sorry for a late reply. I tried this today, and the buttons worked(incorrectly) along with the lighting! Also wired the aliexpress emulator and it also seems to be working except for the controls for instrument cluster. I have the old red cluster with controls on the stalks. I read that the steering controls should works until you start using the stalks but in my case they dont work at all, only the media controls work. I'm not sure if it's a BCM issue or an emulator issue. I have messaged the seller on aliexpress, waiting for a reply.

Were you able to read the multifunction buttons as BCM subsystem on autoscan so you could code them before reinstalling the Ali emulator?

Yes, the buttons on the steering wheel are not compatible with the buttons on the stalk. Once you use the buttons on the stalk the buttons on the steering wheel will stop working until you cycle the ignition again.
They should only be installed in one of the two places to avoid this 'conflict'.

I did do an autoscan before installing the emulator and the buttons didn't show up in BCM subsystem. When i try to load address 09(central electronics), it takes a few seconds after loading the first 2 subsystems, and then moves on to other subsystems. Almost as if it is trying to read the module but cant and it gives up. The behaviour is same after installing the emulator. As for the buttons on the steering for Instrument cluster, they never work. I have tried switching the ignition but they dont work even after that.

On a side note, i have 087F BCM and recently got to know that the firmware needs to be 0424 or higher to enable cruise control. Is that true? Is yes, there any place where i can find this firmware?

Edit: I'll post an autoscan later today

We will wait for that autoscan (SWs, PNs, etc)... it is always the first thing to do before making assumptions or speculations that can lead nowhere.

Example:
6R0, 6RD, 6RU?
