Oh great font of polo knowledge

Any ideas if/where I can get replacement outer rims for my polo gti alloys... The silly mare that had the car before me managed to curb all four, and I’ve been quoted £115 per rim for welding and a bare metal refurb..

If I can get the rims cheaper elsewhere I’ll do the centres myself (as it's only the usual gti corrosion problem)

Well I reckon that quote was from someone who didn't want the work - it's outrageous.......

How badly kerbed are they? Can you post some pics up?

I believe these wheels were always sold complete, ie. both parts (centres and rims) together plus bolts. I'm sure bstardchild can provide comprehensive details on how to split the alloys and have a stab at doing the work yourself, otherwise its over to the bodyshops and refurb specialists...

As a guide I contacted A1 Renovations in Wolverhampton, and they quoted £75 per alloy for disassembly, a complete strip down to the bare metal, and refurb in a choice of various finishes such as high-power silver or black chrome. They'll polish the outer rims too, all for £75 per alloy last I heard. Thats... £300 for all four.

pics are difficult to get hold of... the only way i can describe it is if you took a metal chissel and hammer, and whacked a chunk out of the rim...

On all four rims....

Will endevour to get a picture posted somehow....

Warning, they ain't pretty (we're talking sly stalones mum here)

OK but if you go to an engineering shop with bare rims I bet they'd be charging less than £100 for all the welding work if it's just a few areas that need building up - you don't need to lathe the edges to back to true either a metal file should level em up enough to get to work with wet and dry

The refurbing process is easy - just time and effort and you have to put up with running around on cheap steelies

runnabout rims are sorted, as i can get hold of a pair of p slots to borrow (assuming they'll go over the callipers). Don't mind time and effort if it's gonna save me cash

You think i can get a colour match on the old metal so i can have em polished when they're done (i.e it'll blend)...?

Engineering shop is a good idea, might have to investigate that...

Just realised how stupid my original question is.... For some reason i was thinking i could replace just the rim (like a 3 piece split rim)

It's been a long day and as i'm nearing the end of 2 weeks solid of Microsoft 2003 server Certification courses... my brain isn't working too well.

Another week and i think they're gonna plug me into the collective Microsoft Brain

failing that half the costs by buying these if they don't go up too much

Image should sell replacement outers...they do for BBS RSs and RMs.
