well u can tell by the way they 'start' up. a halogen reaches full brighness and a constant colour almost instantly but xenons ignite ' yellow ish flash' then warm up changing from a blue to a bright white.....

... and when sat in traffic you'll see pretty rainbow patterns on the car in front from your lights

If you've got 'em, you'll know about it, they're uber-bright

yeah thats about the right price...... they are expensive. U can get after markey ones which come i diffrent colout temperatures. U can get 2 diffrent types on bulb, one for projector head lights D2S (polo) and D2R for relflector type headlights.

U can get diffrent brands and diffrent colours. Look on e-bay.....

Philips Ultinon are good

if u were you id buy either the one from VW or get a matcing set o ultinons. you dont want diffrent colour xenons now do u.

Just a thought on the idea of retrofitting xenon lights...

Aren't you supposed to have headlight washers and some form of height adjustment to make them legal (and pass an mot)?

seem to remember reading about this on the cgti forum

Correct! You must have a headlight washer system to pass the MOT, and the ballasts are needed to enable the lights to self-level themselves IIRC, so you don't blind other road users :P

but fitting them on a gti is fine as it has washers etc already!!!
