Has anyone on here modified their PC at all?
I was thinking about a new case mainly as i am a bit bored with my old one and its getting very s**t inside so i figure i need something easier to clean with a bit more ventilation.
Cheers

Fair bit - but no cold cathodes or crap like that - only lots of ram decent processor and motherboard and 300 gig of hard drive storage
X 2 - one hundred percent identical Pair - cept for the case
If one falls over I switch to the other which is mirrored to identical spec
I grew very tired of being an unpaid developer for s**t products and this fixed my problem

More ventilation = more dust

hmmmmm.
What the hell do you do with 300Gb of space?
Mine has 80Gb and i use about 16Gb with everything on it
Going to shove some more memory on it because i am using 255 of the standard 256Mb
Just ripped the case off (not literally) and de dusted it, was absolutely coated in it

Big users are mainly films (120 gb) and music (80 gb) (in mp3 format) and every file I've ever created, made, recieved or sent at home (or work!) since I first owned a PC in 87 - Oh and email file is 13 gb on it's own - bit of a hoarder really and I could do with re-organising it cos I back up fairly often too

1 gig of ram in both but to be honest the benefits over 512 mb are 3 5th's of F All

Garage air line if you haven't got a compressor works well as a de-dust tool!!!!

I used to be into all the modification etc.. on the technical side I had my CPU and RAM bus overclocked and all the cooling fans that went with, and on the cosmetic side I still have a case window, cold cathode, LED fans, rounded cables, the works.. it's suprisingly easy to get into, pointless as it may seem

Mind you, car modification isn't really any more useful but just as easy to get addicted to

My current rig isn't really modified in any way beyond having replaced all the parts with upgraded items (except the floppy drive) over the 6 years that I've had it...
However I'm speccing my next PC with a much quieter case (Antec Sonata) and round cables (improved airflow and easier access to the internals). My shiney 9600XT graphics card has a neon glow from the cooling fan, so it might persuade me to have a perspex panel put in one side, but its not really at the top of the list when it comes to mods on my PC, I tend to concentrate on power and storage issues.
Biggest gripe at this time? I only have 2 USB ports, at the back of the case, and they're v1.1. Oh and the PC is too loud when it s running

Can't be arsed with all that stuff as i can't even see the case anymore - a 17" LCD means I can put the case sideways where the tube used to be on the old monitor and plonk the LCD right in front of it... neatly hiding the case and still giving me more space in front of the screen

(and making it easier to put the scanner atop both of them)
drives and USB sockets still neatly accessible on the left, all the plugs and sockets that used to be hidden at the rear more easily reachable to the right - and better ventilated as the main fan port isn't facing the wall any more!
Neons in your pc case are like having neons under your car

detracting from the main event, which is what it does on the screen & thru the speakers / on the road & round the corners
