Car covers

Does anyone use, or can anyone recommend a car cover for the mk3.
I've not got a garage to store the G40 in and I was considering using a cover and parking it in the garden. It's going to be out of action for a few weeks. No problems with it, just need to get one or 2 things sorted.

I'm planning to get the brakes upgraded, some of the electrics re-wired (minor) then it's off to pitstop (hopefully back in time for GTi International)

James.

I think just about anything will do for in the garage - even old bedsheets.

As for outside i'm not sure. Is it fairly sheltered from the wind??

I use the cheapest possible one available in my garage to put over the G. Doesn't really matter in there as far as I'm concerned. If the car is wet then it's best to let it dry before putting the cover over.

Outside though you want to use a breathable cover, unfortunately these can't promise to be 100% water proof (although you can pay £100's for some that probably are as good as 100%) but they'll let the car dry off underneath. Non-breathable ones wont let water evaporate so you could well be keeping the car wetter under the cover than if it had nothing on it!

Condensation? Breathability is key in car covers to be used outside...

OK A serious reply

I use coversystem outdoor car covers for the LC and Senator (even if it's covered and in the garage) - breathable, water resistant (waterproof is no good cos it sweats under it) and I have never seen any signs of rubbing on the paintwork even after a serious gale.

Elasticated front and rear and 4 underbody straps to hold it down nice and snug

Trouble is they aren't cheap for a big car but maybe for a hatch they might be quite competative

Do you want me to dig out their number?

OK James - from me cover

01933 410851

But went one better and did a quick search

http://www.cover-systems.com/index.htm

Far be it for me to teach an old dog new tricks (I am an old dog) but I got mine made to measure a long long time ago

Gist of the sales pitch went like this

- Want a cover not made (or listed) by them

- in a very active club where not many people have garages so cover is essential not a luxury

- Need to look after cherished baby

- Would (of course) be happy to recomend them

- Cover would always be used overnight at shows (in the morning when everyone else is washing/polishing - I'm enjoying a big fry up) and then I just undo the cover and its ready!!!!

Everyone then wants a cover or to know where to get one  Apparently they always have a rush on senator or LC covers in August just after the annual Vauxhall Rally at Billing (Northampton) so it works.

I got a good deal as a result - but then they hadn't made one for a Senator before - they were chuffed to bit when I sent them the changes required to make it fit an LC

They may have already made one in which case you'll pay what they charge

I would however say mine have been used for 4 years for the LC and 6 years for the Senator (to cover several cars) and you couldn't tell it from a brand new one!!!!

Thanks,

Although they look to start over £100. I've emailed anyway.

Something tells me electronic communications may be a bit slow so I may phone later in the week.

But they do an awesome looking folding garage :D

Bottom line is this - when was the last time you saw a cover 6 years old and in all weathers for 6 years too look like brand new - god knows what they use to make their covers but it's seriously good gear!!!!
