shell optimax

i have been gettin around 230 mile to a tank in my 1200 9n.
i decided to test out optimax, i filled up as usual and out of a tank i got 285 this time round. better quality fuel means the engine doesnt run as rich maybe??
anyone got any idea's?
i think il be payin the extra fiver for the tank of it from now on.

Better quality fuel means a cleaner burn means more efficient engine? Plus the higher quality of the fuel means you need less of it for the same performance, Optimax is the business. Glad you like it! It's definitely worth that little bit extra

yeah, im getting around 290 mark so its probably average, i drive in town mostly and only a few miles of 40-50mph.
im switching back to 14s to see what i can get out of the run in engine.
and of course ill let u know

I managed to get 380 to a tank in the CTR! now it's more like 200.
The G40 is 260 and the 9n FSI I got 440 once.

I use Sainsbury's super unleaded get around 300mpg from a full tank and my journeys are no longer than 20mins.
Also you get the joy of it being alot cheaper than Shell.

supermarket fuels is supposed to be poop, it comes from a different side of the refinary!!
i use Ultimate or Optimax in my Gti and the last tank i got just short of 300 miles

didn't like optimax - less fuel economy but I think it did you a little smoother (maybe I just thought it did).
switched back to 95 RON for now. Is fine - get over 300 miles most times.

I've tried using BP Ultimate but I always get more miles using Sainsbury's Super. I must admit I've never tried Optimax but I think I would rather stay with more miles for less money.

I use optimax all of the time im my 1.4 fsi and get approx. 400 miles from a full tank.
I'm assuming 2fast4u's 1.2 has the same size fuel tank (correct me if I'm wrong) isnt 285 and 290 a bit low from a 1.2?
What does everyone else get?

yes same size of tank,
depends where and how u drive,
i drive mostly in rush hour traffic, not more than 40mph in a 2 (or 3) mile stretch of road,
i just got 27.5MPG from a tank, 75% was high revving 4krpm.

400 mile!! lucky thing. i think my tank is near 40L, cost about £32 to fill and the most i have ever got is 320miles drivin to manchester and back.
i live right in the centre of newcastle so i do alot of stop start driving and i have a heavy foot now and again, but i have slowed down alot since i modded my car and got more experienced at driving.
im not sure on my mpg figure, no computer on the E spec. i think il stick with the optimax anyway, seems better for the engine

Optimax is all I use as I live close to a shell garage, even got myself a shell card to collect points on I use it that much.

Talking about economy, the handbook says that the 1st 3 miles of any journey is really bad for fuel consumption, so if you do lots of short journeys the MPG will be pants.
Off for my 1st long run out in my 9N tomorrow, (Glasgow) can't wait for it to be run in so I can start upping the rev's.
