Hi I've got a 1043cc engine and yesterday I was going down the moterway at about 75 and its suddenly started julting forward a few times. Its hard to decribe but I has forced forward in my seat a bit as I was going along, then suddenly it stoped and appeared again later. I also noticed that the engine was sounding odd when I stopped and my foot was off the gas.
Any idears anyone, I tried explaining to my gargage but he could tell without listen to it. So it looks like I'm going to have to pay him a vistit, I 3 hour journey home by the looks of it.

All I can think of that vaguely matches your description is that we used to have a landrover which was fond of doing kangaroo impressions - suddenly losing power and forcing you forwards, then catching again and flinging you back into the seat. Turned out to be a kinked fuel pipe..
If it's losing power suddenly, it's going to either be fuel or ignition.. if it's sounding odd on idle it might be running on 3 cylinders, in which case I'd suggest you check your spark plugs and HT leads - this would also cause the loss of power on the motorway, and if there's just a loose connection somewhere it could be that it's occasionally making and breaking contact like that.
Otherwise I'd say check your fuel pump's working properly, again it could be the pump making weird noises, and if it's not delivering enough fuel it'd try to cut out obviously, and check you've not got any kinks in your fuel lines.

It sounds like hesistating and it's juddering. Does it do it under load or not ? Could be an ignition or fuelling problem

I can truly say it is losing power then gain it again. When it happened the car wasn't loaded, just me and the misses in it.
I'm really useless with engines and suchlike so I'll have to take it to my VW garage, he's amaizing there he'll look at it and not even charge me, its hard to find somewhere that will do that, most of them charge unbeliveable amounts.

Blocked injector maybe - get some redex or STP fuel system cleaner
How long was it since the air filter was last changed? If you do a lot of city driving they can clog up a LOT faster than e.g. haynes reccomend. Last time i had intermittent power problems such as this, which WERENT caused by dodgy ignition leads, it was because my filter needed changing (no more than 5000 miles after the last time! But i'd done a LOT of city travel and behind trucks on m'way)
you might even have something blocking the intake - stranger things have happened. Pop your binlid cover off, unscrew & remove the "viking horn" attachment, take a peek to make sure everything's free flowing.
On the other hand, the "new" Poxall Ashtray i'm driving (

) has been giving me the exact same gyp, but at somewhat lower RPMs than any 1043 would be turning at 75mph - cruising on the motorway and suddenly the power dies... have to gear down to keep going. That is, I'm hoping, an ignition problem... but it was 55mph in 5th.
4500rpm like what you're likely doing is not a nice place for the power to be dipping in and out! (which is why i'm thinking airflow - there'll be a fair bit of air both being sucked in by the engine, and coming through the grille at that road speed)
Other thoughts - dodgy lambda or temperature sensor (playing merry hell with the fuel mixture, particularly if you're high speed cruising - whats your MPG like? should get 45 at that speed, if you've been keeping track of it)
recent oil change, etc? (dont think its anything to do with that, but who knows)

I had a problem almost exactly like this. Throttle body potentionmeter? Plugs? Leads? Lamba? Ignition coil?
