Ever had technology fail *just* when you need it?

why is it that, for the one time that i absolutely *have* to process a bunch of backlogged emails tonight (deadlines and all that), my work's email has gone walkabout...
grrr...
i very much doubt if some of the people this will affect will believe that it's broken. they've been chasing me for a couple of weeks now and this - to them - will sound like an excuse.
going to loose face at work with this one... pants.

I'm guessing that if Outlook's saying "Your IMAP server has not responded in 60 seconds... etc." I'm pretty much stuffed? It's been doing this all night. It doesn't work on any of the machines here. Email through other servers works fine.
Anyone know a way round this?
