What's your (least) favourites?

I'm thinking of things that get stuck in your mind, words, tunes, phrases..... and also any odd stuff you might have half-seen (or half-thought) when dozing off somewhere inadvisable

i've been having "funny" technical words stuck in my head this week, like Gomphoses (a type of fibrous, immovable joint)..... ;)
gomphoses gomphoses gomphoses
and a couple others but i managed to erase them quite successfully.......... wherease this has legs, it could run for years

and when daydreaming in front of the pc earlier, i could swear i saw my sig pic with small vampire teeth and a very evil grin

ring ring ring ring ring ring ring rign ring, banana phone!

Ah, I get that thing loads - random technical words going round and round in my head. Got a piece of physics coursework coming up on internal combustion engines and I've had "thermodynamics" buzzing round and round in my head all afternoon for no good reason..

As for things when I'm dozing off, my least favourite is when I'm just drifting asleep and I suddenly feel like I'm falling off a cliff or something, that's scary.. occasionally get a few random thoughts stuck in my head as I'm going to sleep as well, again, often random technical phrases that seem to appear from nowhere..

Hmmm...

"Protaspid" (that's the first larval stage of a trilobite - well, the first calcified stage that appears in the fossil record) is a word that's been in my head for the past week.

In fact, I have several fossil-related words hanging around my head right now.

"Creodonta" (an extinct order - is it an order? Class? Gotta ask my dad - of mammal predators)

"Megatherium" (extinct South American giant sloth)

etc. etc. All because I'm working in a public relations company that has this electricity company as a client. The client is building this huge dam that's going to flood a few irreplaceable archaeological sites (not trilobite-related though).

My current "ambient sound" (ie the song that plays all the time in my head) is "Get Born Again" by Alice in Chains. Can't get rid of it.

And I can swear I told my mother to let me sleep for another half-hour when she tried to wake me up for work this morning. A rather normal reaction, except that she's asked me tonight why the heck I was speaking English with her so early in the morning (she regards me as her "excentric" son so apparently a conversation in English would have been normal later in the day. Though I should say it's been years since I spoke English with some regularity, and that's beginning to show in the way I write...).

Gotta stop posting in English-language forums! :D Well, maybe not.

You *could* try to convince us to learn brazilian portugues... ;)

It's usually annoying this (hook lines to CRAP pop songs / dance tunes are the absolute worst - followed closely by the alien-sounding techie term that you dont know what it means :D) but can be interestingly psychedelic / revealing... eventually with enough repetition the meaning of the word breaks down and you start to examine it from a more childlike phonetic standpoint (well, I do anyway ) and begin hearing it "differently"

soon wears off however once it becomes unstuck and you have to use it again.

a varient on this is being slightly tranced on a journey and seeing a familiar car from a "new" angle. You think you know the shape of, say, the back end of a classic fiesta .... not until your brain has done this wierd optical illusion thing (you know those ones that can be two different pictures depending what you WANT to see?) and chucked odd angles into the mix. Strangely pleasturbing, in a thats-cool-i-never-saw-it-like-that-before-but-why-didnt-i??? way. Like suddenly recognising that the same fiesta you've seen as a little metal blob for 20 years actually has a very smart design, and if you push this bit like that, that bit like this... it's actually deceptively close to being a same-generation Escort hatch, with some of the middle section missing and the boot cut a little short!

again it disappears, leaving you unsure of whether you're now seeing it the old way or the new way, or something different. What appears in your mind after being processed by the eyes has to go though various lobes that recognise shapes etc, after all.

half sleepyness BAD things - not quite realising you're dozing slightly at work until something bizzarre happens in the semi-dreamworld (even if your eyes are open), and you wake up ... everything's the same except for that thing.
And deja vu. Had a MAJOR attack of it today regarding some stuff written on a whiteboard. First time I'm (subconciously?) acted on it however - changed a date to see a friend to tomorrow night instead of tonight. .....
Only realised quite why when, this evening, i was first held up leaving work because of a printer and floppy disc problem, and then my usual 25 minute train journey took a little over an hour because of some serious s**t-ups at new street station. I got home knackered at 8, instead of raring to go at 10 to 6. Trip would have been a disaster. Damn hell ass spooky I must say.

Might just be a sign of mental disturbance or sleep deprivation however. Can't say I'm in any way normal.
