Mine did - just into the red IIRC

I've posted this before but for your benifit the rev limiter is built into the rotor arm :)

Then why ask?

The chances of hitting the limiter once or twice doing any damage are small but repetetive high revs will kill your engine.

no as its carbed, limiters are only used on ecu maps

I dont know about the polos, but in the past some cars without ecu's have definately had their revs limited by the design of the rotor arms.

the mk2 ignition amps dont have limiters built in as I use one of them on my GT and thats been taken to over 7k rpm

Must hav been valve bounce then

the way to limit a carb is in the jetting. Or some way of holding the butterfly at a certain place, however this type of limiting is illogical unless done to stop the cam destroying valves but we are talking rediculous revs thereabouts.

Judder can be caused by tracking and/or valve bounce either is fairly distinctive. A limiter on an ecu will still be pulling power but just stops going faster. On a carb you will feel the engine run out of steam.

you could say an ECU one is running out of steam at that point as well, as the spark only gets applied to the plugs if the RPM detector says "last turn was at less than (eg) 6500rpm" ... so p'raps half the available power, or less, only gets put down in the lower gears, maybe 2/3rds in 3rd.

true, however mine is still pulling when the limiter holds it back at 6.2k

well it is a pretty *sharp* loss of steam!

6200? you sure? :)

6200 sounds awful low.. sure it's not just run out of steam? Floor it in neutral and check, would have thought that's the wrong side of the red line to be limiting..

standard NZ ecu. the polo ace ones run to 6500

Theres no torque for the polo at 6200
