was jst wondering wot the options are for a brake upgrade for my polo?

i found this on my travels http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/viewtopic.php?

but still a bit unsure. I no i need different pad carriers, but wot cars can i get these from? & wot parts do i need new (obv new discs & pads but can u buy pad carriers new from VW? or if i can is it worth the hassle?)

keep meaning 2 ask Genesis GT but kp forgetting, so Richard if u see this u can remind me. Figure i should do this now, as ive got some £££ 2 spare & my brakes rnt great.

thanx, Robin

There is a Scirroco GT in the scrappy with all the bits as i was in today £20! - if you dont by it i will for spares!

VWII calipers, pads, pad carriers (important bit as you can get all other bits new quite cheaply), disks, 2 caliper mounting bolts, 2 pad carrier mounting bolts.

if they're 239mm vented disks you're fitting, you can use the standard mk3 carriers

No need for bigger discs in your case

I'm now running 236mm vented golf gti disks, in audi 80 (i think) calipers and carriers, with a 22mm Passat 16v master cylinder and braided hoses with dot5.1 fluid.

Seems to have made a noticeable improvement over the standard GT setup.

Not impressed enough to want 256mm disks though. As soon as I find some new carriers and calipers I will upgrade again.

Although Doms 266mm (is that right?) setup is rather nice.

i think i read somewhere that 2 run 256mm u need to have 15"s or the discs wont fit or am i mistaken

i drove Geesis GTs jst after he upgraded 2 Scirroco GT (i think) pad carriers & all the bits & even tho they werent really 'bedded in' yet &* they were so much better than standrd polo brakes

yeah I've got a 266mm setup, but I wont post how to do it as the carriers need modifying to fit and so do the disks, and if its done wrong could be lethal.

the other problem is that the because the calipers have to be moved 12mm, most alloys will have clearance problems and I had to move the wheel weights so that they missed the calipers.

yeah the 256mm conversion using standard vw/audi parts will fit under 14" wheels unless its something obscure.
