I noticed there is oil in my air filter, everything is standard on the car. there is quite a bit of oil in the engine side of the air filter also this yellow grease type stuff in there too. recentley my engine went into limp home mode and the oil light flashed and beeped and vw said nothing was wrong. has this happened to anyone or does anyone know what it is? any help would be nice,
cheers

If it is only a small amount it could be just residue built up in the throttle body. Try cleaning the throttle body with some carb cleaner and sticking a new filter on. Make sure that no cr@p drops into the trottle body. I had the same problem and this seemed to be the cure.

yeah i have that too

May be I should give it a good clean.... will it have any effect on the engine? I do notice some lack on the high rev about 5500-6500 rpm, I wounder if this is normal? because the max BHP is at 6500rpm right?

I'd also get it checked out on VAG Com if I were you. I had problems with either my crank or cam sensor that prevented my GTI from revving as it should. (It struggled to get to a ton :( . On private roads of course  ) One new sensor and the problem was sorted 8)

Some engines do breath oil up the breather pipe. And it collects in the air filter, where it blocks it and that will make the car unable to breath and will make stop it reving - obviously - it acts like a throttle valve. Its nothing really to worry about, but if you know your car does it, then you need to check your oil regularly and check the air filter.

Mine does it too, and I did a compression test the other week, just to be sure and it got 15.5 Atmospheres on all 4 cylinders. So the engine is fine. I have added a second oil seperator in the breather pipe from vag parts, its from a Golf Mk2! Works perfectly.

The yellow gunk is a little more troublesome. This indicated water-oil emulsion. This could be caused by wrong oil type, lots of short journeys that never lets the engine warm up - problem with the thermostat, or a problem with the headgasket (you really don't want that). There seems to be a consensus at VW that if there is no fault codes in the ECU then everything is ok, and this is obviously crap.

Keep an eye on it, put in new filter and clean everything. Your car cannot speak, but she is telling you something in the only way she can. And like all girls, its up to you to figure out from these vague clues what the hell is going on.
