Hi Everyone. New To The Forums, Just Registered.

Can anyone help me - I've just snagged a bargain JE Style kit on eBay for £90.00, should be arriving later this week, But i'm not sure how to install it to the bumper on the front of my MK3 Polo Genesis KReg.

Does anyone, or has anyone fitted one before??

Another Question, Does anyone know if i can paint my boring faded black bumper to the main color of my motor. If possible i want to paint the bumpers, plus the JE Style kit Tornado Red !!

If anyones intrested this is how i want to get the Polo looiking, although i've never tries anything like this before, if anyone can help me out with a few pointers, it would be greatly appricated !!!

The standard bumpers can be painted, as long as they used primer filler to get the smooth finish (assuming that what you're after?) and then a good coat of 2 pack paint.

Fitting the splitter, you can bolt or rivet it in place. Just line up the splitter with the bumper, drill a whole through both, and rivet/bolt in position.

Easiest way of doing it is to remove the front bumper. Thats done by removed the 2 plastic bungs joing the arch liner to the bumper on each side, 3 allen bolts underneath the grille, and 2 bolts on each side of the bumper close to the foglight blanks. Then you can turn the bumper upside down and get at it a lot easier.

If i don't need it, can you list what primer and that i would need to buy, for lets say the front, back bumpers?

Halfords plastic filler primer should be OK I used it over 12 months ago on some bumpers and the paints still on. 2 pack is a trade paint that is put on with a gun although as your painting plastic you have to use flex additives as well.To get a smooth finish on the primer requires wet & dry about 400 - 600 grade.

I cannot offer any first hand experience of colour coding the bumpers (mine were a bodyshop effort). However, if you are after the DIY approach there is a guide on http://www.polo-gt.co.uk under the section 'Styling/Interior'.

As for the other questions regarding primer, and 2 pack, from what I can gather filler primer is a thicker primer that would be suitable for this job, as it would fill in the texture so you get a smooth finish on the bumpers. 2 pack paint is a thicker paint than cellulose based paints, and is used on the metal panels on the car. With it being thicker, fewer coats are required to build up the layers.

THANKS GUYS - That's helped me out alot, now i know what i'm in for !!!

I think i proberely will try and do it myself, i don't know what it would cost if i went out to try and find someone to do it for me!! 50 Quid don't look to bad to make this Polo Happy.

I'm not entirely sure myself, but I would say using wet and dry paper certainly wont have any negative effects. If anything it should help the primer adhere better to the plastic on the bumper, which will mean there wont be as greater risk of your paint peeling or flaking off.

Thanks everyone for your comments, i'm preety sure i'm going in the right direction now !!

So to bring everyone up to date, the kit should be with me early next week. Tommorow i'm off down to Halfords, or somewhere i can pick up all the products i need. I went into motorworld today, they wanted £8.99 - plastic primer a can !!? Is that right?!!

Anyway, i'm going to spray the black bit by the boot as well, just so i can get a feel for it. As soon as it turns out o.k, i'll be back to show the finished article, wish me good luck !!!!

get the primer from Halfords last time I was in it was on 3 for 2 hence 3 cans for a tenner.

Got it, 3 primers 4 a tenner!! Game on!!
30Quid, 2 Tins of Tornado Red, got another one here too making three in total.

Three primers, Three tins Tornado Red, Two packs of preperation sandpapers, One cleaner thing too. 1 T-Cut.

I'll keep you informed !!
