I was just wanting to see because my brother was quite disappointed in his times but they seem ok.
He's getting 17.2sec nearly every time, and his best is 17.02sec that's with just a k&n panel filter and bigger intake. He's hoping a full system exhaust will get things flowing a bit better.

Pete Strange aka yoof got 17.2 at santa pod the other week in his GT...Does that mean he has a fast car or is it just swings and roundabouts cos the GTI is heavier?

my best time at the pod was 16.7
totally standard car, s**t front tyres with one on the wrong way - no grip
i reckon a flat 16 is possible!

Bet you a Pint it doesn't improve it at all or makes it worse, because you loose the all-important (for 1/4 mile) torque.
I should post some pics of my old bug. Now that was a bug jam Santa Pod front wheel drive eater - until it rusted away. The trouble with that car was keeping the front on the ground so you could steer. Think it was less than 100BHP but with its 638Kg car with all the interior and sparewheel etc left in the tent, and more grip than super glue 4, it went like stink. -Stopping was a different matter - 4 drums and very scary.
I think weight is the largest problem with the GTi weighing in at over a ton, everytime you stick another speaker in or stick something else on it it gets slower. I mean the AC system and bits and bobs add about 50kg, That's almost a passenger!
I wonder if 98 RON (optimax) makes a measurable difference with the GTi?

I think i'll take you up on that bet, he's just fitted a ss cat back exhaust he also removed the middle section and he says the car is quicker to 100mph!(tested on private road of course!!) so surely the 1/4 mile time will be better! Will have to wait and see tho.

JWC you owe me a pint!!!
At a wet crail brother's car ran a 16.567sec @ 84.4mph.
Car weighing in at 990kg without driver.
top end speed on 1/4 mile 5mph faster & 0.5 sec quicker with the exhaust system fitted, instead of a pint i'll have two bottles of Corona with lime!!

You'd have to prove it a bit better than that. 0.5 / sec is within the difference that humididy, pressure, wind direction, how much fuel you have, other weight in the car.
Corona with lime? Who the hell drinks that? Oops - just got a hand bagging from the missus.

That has proved it, he's been to at least 6 1/4 mile days before the exhaust at various times of the year, humidity, temp etc etc and never getting past 17sec.
Bearing in mind that the time 16.567 was on a soaking wet track i'd say on a bone dry track you might knock another 0.5 - 0.75sec off that!!
990kg is the stripped out weight of his car.
Corona and lime rocks!! hope you got a good beating from the missus!!!
