Yeh i'd say its worth it, mostly cause of the milage.

If the milage was average, i.e 40k then Id say youd be looking at £6900 - £7000 from a VW dealer or a private about £6300.

Basically the VW dealerships prices will be about 800 more than you could get going private. So again yeh thats about right.

They are gits though at VW, they know the car is rare so haggling can be interesting (i walked out of one dealership cause they wouldn't budge).

Tis all good news for us GTi owners. Rare cars, and if yours is looked after then you won't loose much at all depreciation wise (compared to something like a saxo vts or 106 gti etc.)

P.s You must be loaded buying two cars at once!

Andy's right, haggling sure is interesting. Despite the fact I'd never bought a car from a dealer before (therefore never haggled on a deal before, heh) I got £500 off the price - but at the time didn't know that the corroded alloys were an issue or I would have pushed to have those looked at too! Ha ha.

£7499, X-reg, 20k. Again I'm inclined to agree with Andy that the low mileage is the reason for the slightly higher-than-normal valuation here - 20k miles on a 4-year old car is really good! I got my black W-plate 3-door GTi for the same money in September '03, with 51k on the clock.

Buying from a dealer is definitely worth it if the deal is a good one - the 12-month used car warranty is very useful! As you probably already know from owning the S3, VAG ownership can cost when something goes wrong!

Bottom line: is it worth it? In my opinion, yes  you'll be getting a solid, well-built and reliable little car with enough power to teach those pesky Saxo boys and girls a thing or two :P plus as pointed out, they're not all that common, which can only be a good thing!

Cheers
