Corrosion on boot handle

I have just noticed that the boot handle on my wifes 51 plate GTi is corroding . It seems to be working its way out from the back of the handle around the sides.

I spoke to a mate who works in a bodyshop and he says he has seen a few Polo GTis that have this problem and that they were replaced by VW as there was obviously a problem with it.

Has anybody had this problem and did VW resolve it?

It is under warranty so I will be speaking to the dealer who sold us the car.

Cheers

i've got exactly the same problem except mines not under warrant any longer... my mates golf anniversary had the same problem just recently too (along with his BBS rims corroding as well!) so its not just a polo problem...

like you say get it done by the dealer under warranty!

I had mine replaced under warranty (anti corrosion warranty is 10 years I think). Boot handle is alloy goes porous so moisture comes from the inside surfaces of the boot handle which probably doesn't have laquer on.

Leaky rear wash wipes don't help either as the hose pipe is on the lock mechanism, as the pipe can come off in frosty weather.

Looks like a common fault on all VW with this style of handle

I spoke to the salesman and he said it a common fault. They will replace it under warranty no problem. He said they keep them in stock as it so common.
