Weird question (don't laugh!)...

When I lock my car, the alarm only emits a single short 'tweet'...and when I unlock it, there's nothing. On the telly however they're advertising the new Polo Classic. In this ad, when the guy unlocks the car to get in, his car emits two 'tweet's. Is this just a setting or different alarms fitted to the vehicles?

The number of 'beeps' or 'tweets' :D you get is programmed into your car's CAN-BUS (the computer thingie that controls your multiplex'd electrical system).

My car for instance emits one 'beep' for locking and two for unlocking.

Changing that is very easy. It's a matter of having your VW dealer or a mechanic/tech with VAGCOM plug a computer in to your car and change this CAN-BUS setting. 5 minutes max.

I dread taking my car into the dealership and have 'em plug their pc into my car. My friend who own a Jetta TDi had so much problems with his alarm after they serviced his car. The car would lock and the alarm would go off when he got into the car and closed the door...scary! (But it sorted out now).

Talking about VAG-COM. I can get my hands on a system now for R5395.00 [£421.48] - hmmmmmm

I dream about VAGCOM but I'm now saving money to buy HIDs for my Polo...

I believe you can get it cheaper in the USA though, something like US$250.00 (R1875.00).
