our mk2 had a leaky tank a while back and obviously stank of petrol, i fitted a new tank and all looks fine with no leaks
thing is i still get a strong wiff of petrol from the rear of the car..enough for others to comment
ive just checked for leaky pipes and its good
due to the fact the vents are to air rather than a charcoal cansiter like newer cars is it normal to smell fumes?

well its taken more than a year for the oil soakage in my carpet (after spilling best part of a gallon bottle in the boot) to disappear, and that's with some serious cleaning. might be that some of the escaping vapour has soaked in like that?
still best to get it checked out!

only a little
mind you i've been overfuelling for probably a year
be warned though - my bro's car started smelling of petrol recently. on a half arsed inspection it was found to be peeing the stuff all over the road as a fuel hose had split right before the carb.
mind you we probably should have realised something was up by the way it started like a dog and was way down on power.

It's common to smell of petrol rich exhaust fumes.. not really common to smell straight petrol though

I'd have it checked out if I were you, especially if others have commented on it and it's not just you imagining it.
