Electrical gremlins...

...have attacked my GTi.
Was driving around this afternoon when the EPC warning light came up on the dash. Got home and tried turning the car on and off a couple of times to see if it would clear, but didnt.
Drove back up to Newcastle with the EPC light still on. Pulled up outside my house where my Dad (who had been following me) told me that my brake lights weren't working.
Now currently:
- EPC light has gone off,
- Brake lights not working,
- Drivers side rear "sidelight" not working,
Anybody any ideas what might be causing this?!

Sounds odd, im not sure of the cause, but check the fuses and the bulbs for those lights?
Perhaps disconnect your battery and reconnect to see if 'resetting' the computers will help
Or maybe someone nearby with VAGCOM can scan your car
Hope helps

Thanks mate.
Been through the fuses and they were all fine. Bulbs looked ok as well.
Probably going to have to take it to the dealers.

Sucks that you can't get your hands on a VAGCOM
VW dealer will probably charge £35 to have a look at it and see if their VAGCOM shows up any error codes. If the bulbs are OK and the fuses are OK... I guess it might be the wiring somewhere?
I had a few electrical gremlins of my own when I first got the car, but they were fixed under warranty. Just little things like leccy window motor and replacing a couple of failed leccy window switches - did you get yours from a dealer or was it a private sale? I can't remember

Got it from a general second-hand car dealer.
No warranty as such

and not really worth the hassle trying to get anything out of them either.
Guess it's just the pay off of having more power and toys than the 1.0E, more to go wrong!

might be worth looking at the brake light switch mate, common problem with the lupo's, dealer's charge around £10 for the unit and then £40 to fit it lol. If u hav a little mechanical knowledge it take's 10 min's.
(brake light switch is situated just above the pedal itself)
any drama's just drop us a pm!

Well Red Lup Gti, you were right

It was the brake light switch.
Took it in to the dealers this morning and they fixed it there and then. Only cost me £20 overall, so I'm not going to complain really.
