Radiator Fan/Air Con Problem?

Did a quick search, but couldn't find anything on this.
Mkiv Golfs (yes I am a refugee!) have a known problem where the rad fans stop running at slow spped with the air con switched on, as they should, and run at full speed intermittently. Is this a problem with Mkv Polos also? I have noticed that my wife's 1.4 16v Polo, which has climatronic, is doing the intermittent thing and wondered if we needed to get it fixed before the warranty expires.
