Side Exit Exhausts

Hiya ive got a mk3 and was just wondering whether side exit exhaust were legal and if so what are the advantages/disadvantages of having one.

Advantages:

-Look the t**s!
-Exhaust gases dont have a lot of travel, (which can sometimes produce a different noise).

Disadvantages:

-Would be a bit of a bas***d to make and fit.

Not sure if its illegal to have. Dont think it is, all the ginneta's, marcos, and cobras have em, o and caterhams so dunno. :mrgreen:

my mates mk2 coupe s had a side exit exhaust for a while. it was a right bodge though, just cut off the standard pipe where it points to the side before going into the back box & then welded a straight piece of pipe with a tailpipe on the end of it which stuck out just before the rear wheel. Looked different but sounded horendous. VERY loud.

A custom exhaust place should be able to knock something up easily. although they'll have to use a good silencer since there'll only be room for one. it used to always catch on speed humps too.

I know a good fabrications place, that can knock you up some pipe etc.

I can get the number if u want, they are located in benfleet essex
