I'm looking for a set of alloys for my mk2 squareback. Does anybody know if 195/50/15 will fit without scrubbing? If they do will they effect the handling much?

Squareback rear arches are a real pig, you won't get those on without a good bit of arch work. My 175/70r13's scrubbed on the rear arches, just goes to show how little room there is

Oh poo!
Thanks for the reply. I'll have to keep my eye out for something smaller.
Do you know the max size i could go without scrubbing?

its more like the 165-175 range at the back isnt it? and maybe 185 up front at a push
the arches just arent made with big wheels in mind as its an economy shopping trolley

..... but on the flipside of that coin, it doesnt need such huge tyres as some other cars might, particularly at the back.

With standard arches, the shoulder of the tread on 185's catches the arches so that's pretty much out. My 175/70's rubbed, but that was only on the sidewall so I think probably if you got low profile 175's you might be ok. 165/65r13 is what I have fitted now and that's pretty much perfect - not much clearance, but enough that I feel safe with them.
Mind you, I should think you'll want to get the arches rolled if you're going for 15" rims anyway, so you may be able to go a little wider if you do that.

Cheers guys
I'm not 100% decided on wheel size yet. Just on the look out for anything to replace the standard set. (On the cheap) LOL

On the front, it scrubbed on the inner wing on full right lock, at the edge of the panel that covers the hole in the arch at the end of the gearbox (which I eventually pulled off and bent in the panel slightly so that it didn't scrub), and on the rear it scrubbed on the lip of the offside arch whenever there was a bit of weight in the back, which was just a pain because my car is used as everything from a heavy courier to a taxi service, so the rear end gets a fair bit of use..
