Mudflaps/splash guards

Hi there.
I just sent a msg to Martyn about a pair of rear mudflaps for my Polo. I'd like to know if anyone here has them installed, or maybe has got a photo of a Polo thus fitted.
Are these difficult to install?
I'd also like to check what the front mudflaps look like when installed. I'm definitely getting the rear ones but at the front they may look odd so I'd like to see that first.

Yes, and Petrified's too. But Nelson's removed them and Petrified's car is black so it's not much of a reference in my case.

Well, I had a complete set in my hands - took 'em out of the packaging, see what they would looked like and hated them! I think they look really crap. I know some of you need to install 'em for mud, etc. I only drive my car when it's not raining, so it doesn't bother me that much. THe back ones looks pretty much the same as the bottom black parts of the bumpers...but the front ones looks like cheap rubber/plastic combo. I'm gonna get shot for this now - but a car with mudflaps looks like an old mans car *duck*...
Installation is a breeze, but you need to take the wheels off in order to install them.

Hmmm, I had the 'old man' factor in mind too.
That's why I was in doubt over the front 'flaps. Rear ones are really OK, and I'll definitely need them come rainy season (summer). Right now we're in the dry season (winter) in my region, but by November it'll be raining constantly until February.
The weather's not stormy mind you, just rainy almost all the time, so mudflaps are a great idea. Besides they're a relatively rare sight over here so the 'old man' issue ain't that important if only the rear ones are installed. And besides, rear headrests used to be considered 'old men's' item over here and were removed by younger drivers. Until the police cracked down on this.

The set you had - was it OEM? Did it come with all the parts needed for installation?
And do we have to drill holes in the bumpers to fit these 'flaps?

Yep, they were OEM ones, and everything is supplied (screws, etc.), but no tools though. As far as I could see, no holes needed to be drilled, everything is there

I think they were about R169/set - thus R338 (front and rear) - giving you roughly £26.40 (@ current exchange rate).
The back ones are okay, but the front one are horrible - take my word for it!

Hmm... R169 = R$64 so they're cheap!

Personally I think they are OK and suit the car. My opinion is the car looks all the better for them but then again I am a bit 'Old Man', if you colour coded them they'd look even better.
You can fit them without taking the wheels of (as I did) but it can be fiddly, you just need to make pilot holes for the screws, once on they reduce road dirt and spray quite effectively.

Martyn quoted £16 for each pair + £11 shipping
so I might only get the rear ones for cost reasons after all...
