you can get both those sizes id imagine. Iva had a set of 175/65s in the past. 185/60s would be good...

I wish..... I priced up some falkens and for 4 175/65s it would cost £140, so I had to go with some 165/65 that only set me back £91 [they are cheaper tyres made by dunlop?!].
I am part of the gti 9 spoke club now!! so snap Gareth GT and G.C!!!
Ill get you some picks soon, ive sprayed them satin black and am waiting for the money from my 15s so that I can go 60mm rather than 40. :D

I've got a pair of 185/60's and a pair of 175/70's in the shed. Good tread on the 185's, the 175's are almost brand new. They're yours if you want them, gratis, I need them out of the shed..

Ive just taken delivery of some 13" 9 spoke alloys (like the one on GC's sig.
My question is, can i use my existing wheels bolts from the steelies or do i have to get some longer bolts to cater for the alloy thickness?

Edit:

Also, will the 175/70/13's that came with them be ok with a 40mm lowering?

Cheers chiefs!

Brian :)

The tyres will probably be ok on a coupe, but you won't be able to lower a squareback with them without some arch modification. You might also find that they scrub slightly on full right lock, to stop this you have to remove the plastic panel in the arch that covers the end of the gearbox as it protrudes slightly and catches.

OK, thinking process complete and after reading this topic again and some very helpful advice from GC.........

I think ive decided to lower it 40mm AND put the 13's on....BUT change the 175/70's they came with to 165/65/13.

According to tyresave tyre calculator this will make the tyre diameter 1mm less than the standard & 20mm wider overall.

Will this still be ok without modding the arches or is it more of a case of 'suck it and see'?

Cheers guys!

Brian

Should be fine, my 165/65's have acres of clearance. They look a bit skinny compared to the old 185's, but not so bad as to look silly.

Well, i went and did it at the weekend. My wee green tank is now 40mm lower and sporting the 9-spoke alloys wrapped in 165/65/13's.

And the best bit about it, no rubbing, not even when going over rather large speeds bumps at more than the recommended speed limit :D :D

Pics to follow, when ive cleaned him up lol.

Next job, a weber carb replacement 8)
