What bhp can I expect? Also, to chip or not to chip?!

Recently at GTi International I missed the chance of putting my car on the rolling road and since then I've been wondering what kinda bhp I can expect from my car.

I've done side-by-side tests (on an air field) with another standard bhp Polo and my car is much faster in any gear, at any speed. The power delievery is much more instant.

I have a 1390cc 8 valve Mk4 Polo. I also have a Supersprint exhaust (not full system) and a Pipercross induction filter.

I know the Mk4 1.4 8 valve Polo is something like 64bhp standard, so have I got around 70bhp now?

I was maybe thinking a tad more considering the difference between my car and my friends (standard bhp) Polo's. Plus the fact my car has done an indicated 115mph.

I'm also considering getting a chip, it will add 3-5bhp for £150.

I would say 66-68bhp

I thought the 8v's were 60bhp standard

and I would have thought an exhaust and filter would give you about 5 - 8 bhp at most.

the 1.4 8v has 60 BHP standard.
But just a backbox and a induction filter don't do that much for your BHP, given the circumstances a filter can even decrease your BHP because some induction filters (like K&N) use the warm air from underneith your hood/bonnet, and the warmer the air, the lower the performance of your engine, so lowr BHP.

If you make sure that there's a good cold-air supply to your filter (best way is to divert the driving-wind to your filter, sort of ram-air like) than you can gain a little BHP. Induction filters work best in combination with a spaghetti exhaistmanifold, than you can really expect some more BHP and good torque

I'd say around 63 BHP for your Polo.

(if you got smaller tyres then your mates, then you will sprint faster then them to, because your gearbox will then be able to get more torque and BHP on the wheels)

not much point in zorsts and induction for a small engine, yes they do make it sound better tho...
