I have the chance to get a set of 16" BBS RCs which I think will look great on a Polo however they have a set of 205/40 16 tyres. Is there anyone running 205s just want to make sure they don't rub on anything on full lock etc

you are officially a 'lucky git'!!

ive wanted to find a set of them for soooo long, especially the polished version of them like the 25th anniversary golf ones.
In the end i gave up looking and bought some wheels from japan which im going to fit soon, and they have 205/40-16 rubber on them.
I need to get it lowered first as it would be murder to fit them with a standard sized arch gap!! If you give me a month or so ill let you know how i get on, but to my knowledge other ppl have had no probs at all with 205/40-16 on standard height, and even with a small drop. 215 is where the probs can occur

strech some 195/45/16 tyers on, it will look the nuts and will help provent rub! also the tyers are MUCH cheaper!

Ive got 195/45 16 toyos t1's and they rub on me arch's!!
taken angle grinder to one side as there was a big lump of under seal and a drip'd weld!
also cut bits of the plastic away from the inner wing thing to get full turning circle without rubbin!
so 205's would be a no go i would say!!
plus RC's rock bro has 18's on his golf and they look FAT

Sadly I missed out on the wheels the bloke has sold them to someone who could pick them up rather than posting them to me

my plan was to put 195/40 R16 once the tyres on them were done but I was hoping I could get use of the rubber on them first.
They were for GTi but I am going to refurb my wheels now myself after seeing Bstardchilds thread on it. I had my wheels refurbed not that long ago but I find the finish a little dark and the rim was painted. So I plan to strip them back and polish them up myself, looks like a lot of hard work but don't think you can beat the polished rim !
I wouldn't mind getting another set of GTi alloys as I reckon it would be easier to refurb another set than stripping the paint off mine but they seem like gold dust ! Although I reckon VW must have a few lying around after all the warranty replacements, my VW garage refused to replace mine under warranty saying it was wear and tear I should have pushed it further but didn't and the cars now out of warranty.

I bit late but thought I would share my experience of 205/45/16 tyres. They came on my 16" when I got them, thought they would fit, put them on and rolled forward and backwards and heard some rubbing noises...took the wheel off and there was a nice clean shiny part to the bottom of the shocks and to the rear inner arches...so I would say no go there...unless you get some spacers...but then it would rub the outer arches...
