hi im lookin at getin lenso EVO II in 17's raped in 205/40/17 Tyres
any and all help appreciated

They need a little work, my 17 x 7.5's fit but have a slight bit of rubbing on the front, a little grinder action solved this no worries. Id go for 16's with a 50mm drop tbh. 17's give a polo a pretty harsh ride.

Id get 16's next time, although i really love the look of mine. Might get new shocks instead.

its such a hard question to answer, its really upto personal preference,some people prefer 15's and slammed, others like the looks of shiney 17's
I don't think many people have 16's on here do they?

you would be right, i pay 64 quid a tyre thats yoko a539's 195,45,16. Not even low profiles damnit!

I have 16's. I asked at my local garage how much tyres are and they quoted me 45 quid each. I don't know the brand but they had temterture A, and Traction A, and tread wear 260, which I thought was quite good.

17" for Style...

15/16" For a bit more speed.

I had 15" with 195's, and then got the 17" with 205 and i though the ride got better !!!! The ride is much slower though U will defo feel the slowness ....its not bad for the style look but speed is reduced

yeah 17s for bling, u could opt for some smaller tyres. - 215/35/17, 195/40/17 too

every polo must be different. i cant understand these people who say its a no go putting 17" on. i went throgh the exact same thing as you. i went for it in the end and have never looked back. the only rubbing i ever get is on the rear right when reversing. on closer inspection its the plastic lining in the arch. it wasnt sitting where it was supposed to and was buldging out. now i just take it easy on the 3 point turns and no problems.

i dont understand when people say go for smaler tyres. ok get a smaller wall profile. ie 35 instead of 40 but you you cant just get a 195 anstead of 205. the tyre wont fit the alloy. even if you do find a company that sells 195/35/17 tyre. what alloys come in that size. one thing i should have done was gone for falken tyres. they seem to have the lowest profile.

the tyre will fit on the wheel..... 165 tyres can be fit onto a 7" rim.

i just got some 17x7 in 205/40 tyres last week and they do rub a little at the back but its just the plastic lining in the wheel arches which is easily fixed with a bit of DIY.
done around 1000 miles since and its been fine, very slight rubbing when reversing fast but hey?
it is a bit slower mind you as theyre heavier and also it affects the speedo a tad dependin on what wheels you have on before. Mine is going 32mph when speedo says 30, and 75 when it says 70 - just gotta watch out. as long as you know its ok!

a wider tire stands more chance of catching as it has a bigger "corner" that is to say a narrower tyre becomes slightly triangular so since the edge of the tread usually catches it gives you a bit more room

the other reason is that the way a size works is this

195/50/15
look at it like this:
a/b/c
a=195
b=50
c=15

a= width in mm
b= profile
c=rim diamter

the point im trying to make is most people think b (the profile) is a measurement, it is not it is a persentage. i.e. on our example of 195/50/15 the profile (sidewall height) is 50% of the width (195x50%) this means that when a is reduced then b reduces proportionatly
example
on a 195/50/15 - 195x50%=97.5mm sidewall height
on a 165/50/15 - 165x50%=82.5mm sidewall height
on a 195/45/15 - 195x45%=87.75mm sidewall height (therfore a bigger diameter tyre then 165 50 15)

this means the overall diameter is slightly smalled giving less chance of rubbing and slightly increased acceleration/braking due to the tortional forces being multiplied by the radius of the wheel+tyre
