Hi folks! Ive just recently purchased a VW Polo GTi (Reflex Silver) after months of searching/pricing/researching. I must say that im very impressed with the car and cant fault its looks!
It seemed that this one had suffered from the usual suspected mechanical faults - gearbox, clutch, pedal box, etc. Pleased to say that its all been soted under its warranty, so no worries there!
Im not planning any mods as yet but a performance exhaust system is on the cards when the original manufacturers one is on its last legs. Im also interested in replacing the air filter with a K&N panel filter. Would be good to hear from anyone with their opinions on the improvements that its made to the cars performance (do it also provide a much deeper engine noise?).

welcome to the forum and im glad your enjoying your new car theres a lot of possibilitys as far as exausts go so if you could tell us your budget and what you want then that would help (btw when i took off my stock exaust at about 12,000 miles there wasnt a spot of rust for you )

Welcome to the forum , I see you're looking at a few good mods to your car. Well I've done some simialr mods on my GTi. So look at Members rides for BlackGTi.

As for question, stick with a replacement filter element not a induction kit (unless your going for the BMC one on blackgti's) cause you wont get enough cool air into the engine, which will give a nice engine note, but wont help performance (might actually make it worse ).

For the exhaust stick with Magnex (my favourite), Jetex or Piper. these both have a really deep note rather than a loud raspy one - and the tailpipes are quite subtle.

BlackGTi ur car is lookin smart in members rides, like the exhaust! How much did that set you back?
My car is nice n standard at the moment until i got some cash together, car and a holiday in the same year is never good on the old wallet!
KarlM - I dont suppose a K&N panel filter would do much for the power increase then, would it? Take it you have a Magnex pipe fitted? Any pics?

Just been havin some problems with the handbrake of late, had it tightened at the dealer and since its been sticking when the car has been left parked stationery for a good few hours. Had to increase revs in 1st to get the brakes to release! Hasnt been happening the past few days tho!

the performance wont be great, but better than an induction kits (unless you get a cold air feed).

I don't have a Magnex system on my car (its a complete custom system) but i had one on my old car and i know loads of people that have had them fitted. nice subtle tailpipe as well

Hey simrich my exhaust is a Supersprint System from the catilic back and it cost me £330 all in. I've got the silencer fitted on mine as I didn't won't to increase the noise on mine.

Just re-read the post, sounds like your brakes are sticking. get your local garage to re-grease them (or ask 2k for a guide )

Now had the car for about 3 weeks, slightly starting to get frustrated with the amount of niggly problems im getting. I have taken the car into the dealer before to get the gas discharge headlights re-aligned not so long ago, i personally still think that they need re-adjusting as the beam line doesnt seem far enough away from the front of the car. Anyway, have recently noticed that the passenger headlight has started to suffer from bad condensation build-up inside. Went back the dealer and they said that the whole passenger side headlight setup needs replacing
Good thing that the car is under its extended warranty, wouldnt want to fork out the £140 invoice!
Blackgti - i hear you suffered the same problem, what happened to you in the end?

Finally, is it me or are the Polo GTi clutches known for being extremely stiff and sensitive??

If you mean it is hard to control the car on it's biting point at let's say, a junction on the top of a hill, try taking your foot completely off the gas pedal and doing the clutch control without the aid of the accelerator.

That's what I have to do anyway... If I try to do normal clutch control, the revs go all over the place (the car almost stalls, then revs it's knackers off then nearly stalls again) - even when I keep the gas pedal completely still (I do know how to do clutch control before anyone comments!)

I went to the dealers about the above problem when I first got the car and was told that that was how it was, get used to it (more or less).

Anyway, just try doing it without any gas if this is the problem you're having.

With regards to the headlight adjustment, I have had loads of problems with mine (all sorted now)... It took my dealers many, many attempts to get the beam right. Then I took the car in for it's first MOT and was told that the drivers side light wasn't high enough! I thought (oh, no... back to the dealers again) but instead of having to plug in a computer to adjust them, the MOT guy got a screwdriver out and adjusted it the old fashioned way... worked a treat! When they're set up correctly, the Polo GTi's HID's RULE!

I have the same problem - but always assumed it was down to a combimation of the big wheels and exhaust

i dont understand why u need to take it to the dealer to get the condensatione done :s bcu i would of thought that when washing ur car u may have got a lil water in the lens and it was causing condensation! BUT £140!!! geeeeee. i can imagine ur getting a bit peed off after 3 weeks. i bet the garage love u! lol
