Ok

stuck in traffic this afternoon, and AGAIN the temp went up to 110deg. Fan didn't come on.

Got to Halfords as was buying things there, and tested the fan, working fine. Sprayed some GT85 on the connections for the switch, still didn't work.

Drove the mile back home, thought I'd try it again on the drive, got just over 100deg and then the fan came on!

Is it possible that a brand new (3 week old) switch can be faulty? Has that kind of thing happened before?

Thanks in advance!

A very frustrated and confused tom!

It is possible that new switches could be faulty. By switch, I assume you're talking about the blue temp sender? If it might be worth trying a new one, as these can cause all kinds of upsets. There is another possibility that the black sender could be faulty too (this sends the temperature readings to the dash). Other than those suggestions, I can't think of too much else.

no its actually the fan switch in the radiator thats causing the problem.

I've decided, to avoid any further complications, to wire a switch into the fan circuit, so I can just flick the switch on in the car when needed.

It should solve the problem, and the fan switch will now just act as a rather expensive radiator bung! :)

If the weather improves I'll wire it up tonight, using a relay, and probably put it into one of the redundant switch holes in the dash.

Thanks for the advice!
