Speedo and rev counter dead...

Hi hope someone here can help me!
My problem started one day when I started the engine. The rev counter went to about 1000rpm (as always) but started to flicker and went dead. Switched ignition off and when turning it on again the rev counter flickers around 0 rpm. This problem doesn't occur every time (sometimes the rev counter works just fine) but when it does, the rev counter always flickers around 0 rpm until ignition is turnd off completely (flickers for a few seconds after turned off). In addition to this problem, everytime the rev counter acts this weird the speedo is completely dead. Why...?
Can also mention that a couple off times when I've come back to the car (after being parked for a few hours), it seems like the battery been disconnected (clock reset and stereo also reset). Anyone that have had the same sort of problems?
All help much appreciated - danwik

You have probably got a faulty/broken wire sum where. Or your battery connection could be loose.

you checked all of your fuses because there are seperate fuses for the 6n dash. also check your plug connections on the back of your dash. If its not a wiring fault it could be an engine control unit problem mate sorry..Problems on your lcd where your milage is can indicate ecu
