Gotta agree with you there! I've had my knackered old Coopers replaced by T1S Proxies on the front, and they're just unbelievable in comparison. Probably helps that I've gone from budget tyres (not my choice, they were on there when I bought the car) with 3mm tread to brand new Toyos with 7mm tread! Haven't had any problems with grip in the wet either, I read somewhere that the Proxies weren't very capable in the wet?

Mekanik, out of interest, what made you choose the Falken/Uniroyal combo mate? I'm sure they're both really great tyres, but how come you didn't get four all the same?

I'd heard good things about the uniroyal's. At some point why not try swapping your front and back wheels and see if the handling changes? Just a thought!

I didn't realise how much grip I'd lost with worn tyres until I put the new ones on!

(If anyone's interested, I can confirm that Goodyear Eagle F1's are much better in the wet than Pirelli P5000 Drago's)

I might have got Toyo's but I'd heard rumours about them not lasting too long?

As I understand it the Toyos are made of a softer compound of rubber than, say, Eagle F1s. As a result they might be more grippy but have a shorter life as a result. Given the mileage I do, which is about 8,000-9,000 a year at the moment (it's not a very long commute to work!) I'm happy to buy the Toyos. But if my annual mileage was more like 14,000 things might have been different and the Eagles, although more expensive, would probably have been the wiser choice.

I agree about the Pirelli P5000 Drago's. I've got those on the front of mine and they are pretty poor.

Michelin Pilot Exalto's. Now that's a good tyre.

Expensive though.

For the mileage I do (not that much when at Uni) the Yokohama AVS Sports have been the best investment I ever made.

The grip is just unbelievable wet or dry. But seen as they come as standard fitment on stuff like the Aston-Martin Vanquish with 500+bhp, a Polo GTi with 125bhp is never going to stretch them to the limit.

There was a stage a long while ago where i was driving like an absolute t**t anyhoo, due to this i was going through tyres like hot dinners, the uniroyal/falken combo is a tried and tested combo for me

althoguh there is the fact that the characteristics of the polo are totally differrent to the last car so maybe il give a different combo a try next time
