Single point fuel injector - please help

Hi there everyone,
I wondered if someone might be able to help.
I have been dogged by a problem on my '94 L Boulevard. It had this really annoying problem of just cutting out. Sometimes when idling, sometimes when running (bit scarry a cut out at 65 mph) and sometimes it would not even start. Yet, to make it all OK, I just squirted WD 40 in to the hall sender, and hey presto, working car again. This had been happening for months, and finally the other day it just would not respond to any coaxing. Turns out I need a replacement single point fuel injector. Only I have been quoted £180 + VAT
Does any one know where I might find a cheaper one. I am trying 24/7 findapart, but I wondered if anyone might have some advice about my situation.

Go to the scrapyard and hunt for a SPI Mk3 Polo. Bingo.

Who suggested you need a new SPI unit? Because surely if you'd found cleaning the hall sender helped previously that would point to hall sender problems? It's fairly common that they fail too, causing random cutting out and spluttering before eventually packing up totally.
An SPI unit or CL distributor (with hall sender) shouldn't cost you very much secondhand from a scrappy at all. Whereabouts you from?

Im pretty sure I can get you a 1.0 injector unit and dizzy for fairly cheap. My local scrappy has a 1.0 L reg boulevard in at the moment that is accident damaged (side impact) and last time i checked it still had the spi unit and dizzy. (it was pretty much all I didnt have off the engine.)

Wont be able to go till friday though. Oh and I agree about the injector not being the problem by the way, just thought i would let you know that I can get both.

Thought it was the dizzy at first, but when I changed the dizzy (and attached hall sender) problem still persisted. It was only when the guy in the garage tested it all again that he actually saw the fuel spray cone turn into a dribble. Hence the spi being the culprit. Nothing wrong with old dizzy either as my mate tested it on another polo.
However, any more info at this stage would be helpful as I nearly got a wrong spi. Apparently there are 3 different ones for that year of model. Hopefully now will be obtaining nthe right spi (and throttle body) for £50 tomorrow. Thanks for offering to get the parts for me though Gareth, much appreciated.

Well I'd
- take the injector out
- have a butchers in the Yellow pages for a local diesel engine specialist
- run it down to him and let him ultrasonic clean it and run it on the test rig
Most diesel specialists have facilities to clean injectors most normal garages don't so it pays to ask the diesel guys
They can normally rebuild it with new pintle and cap o rings etc wthin a couple of days
That way you get your injector all refurbed and it's the right one for the car - my local place used to charge £12 per injector - when you have 6 it's expensive when you have 1 it's cheap!!!

Well, hello again peeps,
Finally got my polo back this morning. Ran fine for an hour, then it conked again. Wouldn't start. Same problem as before, but with new dizzy and recon throttle body and spi. Am I looking at a replacement ecu? Starting to run out of ideas. Anyone else got any?
