Meh...... see sig.... just want to break things - not the car, just random objects - right now (or specifically people who don't have a good excuse, like being ill - instead, just stupid).

Like a rock over the head of whoever at Thompson pattern parts labelled their 1.3 rings as 1.0s.... already been offered two more sets like the naff GSFs ive got and they simply don't fit.

Groovy, I don't suppose you ever found that fourth piston?
Hell if i can put together three non-bent, non-snapped ones out of the things I already have to make just one set (one straight compression, one bevelled compression, one scraper), I might chance it on three of one and one of another.

Gonna be on the blower to Ferraris Piston Service tomorrow morning to see if they can do me a rush job and give some kind of guarantee on the thickness, if they know it. Otherwise...... spares/repairs/transplant shell/breaking for bits time.

Ebay guy who was selling the HZ pistons has suddenly clammed up after responding quickly before.

I hate banging on and on and on about this BS but I'm getting quite emotional and bipolar about it and its irrationally wrecking my life right now. :(

Why does it have to be SO. GOD. DAMN. DIFFICULT?!
If the blessed thing was a 1.3CL i've have probably got finished about two months ago!

Even if i get it sorted saturday I can put a couple hundred miles on by Sunday and feel better about the MOT... and take a roundabout route there  Then there's just the next-to-vanished tax to worry about. And family pressure. If it wasnt for the continual hassle over it i'd be prepared to take Logik's advice to surrender the tax and just go easy with the fixing...

I wonder if that install of counterstrike still works?

by the sound of it, it would have been easier to buy a complete 1l runner and swap the engines over!

know how you feel...

I'm afraid I still don't have that fourth piston, I don't have a clue where it's got to. Cleared out the shed and everything, and it hasn't turned up.
You're still welcome to the other three though, they're complete with piston rings, if you can scrape enough of your old rings together for one more piston then you may have a result.. my only worry would be whether the HZ pistons are the same specifications as the AAU pistons apart from the piston rings business.. at first glance they certainly look pretty different. Still, let me know if you want to give it a try and I'll send them your way.

Oi..make me an offer on this 1l engine to get it out of my shed...it runs fine so just swap it over and your problems are solved!!

I must say, it's probably the easiest way out. It's what I ended up doing - pain in the backside, but if everything goes t**s up sometimes you have to cut your losses..

Cheers for the replies guys
ok, silly girly mental flip out buffoonery over..... stress can really do your head! ignore the first post if you can :D

Sh*t, Metz, if id have been able to get online today and read that in time (bit of a nonstop mare) i'd have taken that up like a shot for £33.33 (plus a pint of your favourite bitter*)..... get the old lump off your hands and have a guaranteed runner for myself** (thought you'd have been shot of it ages ago so thought never crossed my mind!)... ah well!

instead i've found that, with a little further grilling, Ferraris could get the exact right part (i had the guy hunting in the index for the individual ring thicknesses lol ) ..... including tax it was £81.63...... bloody nora yes i know but my head was nubbinned! I'm allowing the quality of the service to knock a tenner off that though (the guys were unerringly decent chaps***) just so it comes under a metaphysical twenty quid a pot.
Most annoyingly, the place is literally five minutes walk from the hospital i was working at yesterday - finding out today instead i had to sneak off early and drive like a mong to get there... only to discover they're "cash only". Lucky escape there being a cashpoint very close...

(still got the evils from mum and a knowing shrug from a visiting unc when i got back home bearing the prize hehe)

so........ onwards to teh fixage. just finishing my cup of tea and uploading eine kleiner photograf of the goodness.

oh... and yes i did check all three rings (well, one of the four sets anyway) against a test piston in the place before putting money down, and they fit like beauties. All that I can see happening now is the gaskets not fitting... the sump being bent... the bearings knocking... forgetting where all the wires go... not being able to refit some fiddly part... it p*ssing down with rain... etc etc etc :D

* "smirnoff" is not a brand listed in any beer drinkers guide that i know of, neither is jack daniels, courvoisier, bacardi, malibu, archers, captain morgans, baileys, or gordons... :D
** providing of course the petrol & crane hire/borrowage (+travel for that!) costs wouldnt have been silly
*** tally ho what what

edit: there we go

oooh what a sudden nasty cross-thought..... www.goetze.cx?? lol :D

uh oh.... got all the stuff... even abandoned it last night because of poor light with the ring compressor tightly clamped on a piston and resting on the block... but by what the radio's saying and the look of the sky it's about to pee down. hard. all the way through til monday.

sodding typical! i can't get the thing into the garage until the pistons are in and the sump's back on (so i can reconnect the driveshaft). time to rig up a tarpaulin, and maybe some weatherproof lights...
