Cutting out at the lights...

Hi there, my car keeps cutting out when im stopped at the lights, when i stop reving the revs stay at 1,000 ish then drop slightly and then the car stalls. It keeps doing this pretty randomly, but when i starts it does it constantly. When i start the car back up it starts without a problem although nothing is wrong!
Its on 49K now, any ideas what might be up... (2001 Polo gti)

dunno could be a number of reasons take it to local garaGe

The valve that controls the idling of your car, if it packs up from what I know it can either hold the revs high as happened to my brothers fiance, they were sitting at about 3000rpm, it may happen the other way in your case.

1 of my car use to either idle high or really low, rarely happened though but got it checked and my said itll probly be that. really annoying cos when it start idleing at 3000rpm at the lights, when u change gear it nearly burns your clutch out!
