Took my car for its 60k service yesterday.

VW - Mr Thomson, the number plate bulb has gone, thats going to cost £1.47.

Me - No problem

VW - The bulb in your centre console has gone, thats going to cost £15.

Me - £15? No problem

VW - The front exhaust bracket has corroded away, it needs replacing.

Me - Just the bracket?

VW - Well the bracket is part of the front exhaust section...

Me - And...

VW - And that includes the CAT.

Me - Oh sh!t, how much?

VW - £827!!!!

Me - Dont worry about it, I'll get a mate to weld it back.


That has to be the most expensive bracket in history, nothing wrong with the exhaust at all, just the sodding bracket... £827!

I once had to replace the CAT shield due to resonance noise.

The part itself costed 50 Euros and they charged me 70 Euros for labour !!!

I then asked them what would happen if they had to replace a SINGLE SCREW, but had to remove the engine for it...

They very readily replied it would cost a ALOT but it only made me laugh for the CRAP costing policies the VAG Group has....

I would think the best thing in that case is to visit your local garage....

My bracket had broken too, VW quoted me £600! , sorted it for now with 2 exhaust clamps and a piece of metal strap, It seems ok, but I'm gonna get mine welded too.

Luckly when my bracket rusted through / snapped it was under warranty and I got the cat included. phew

Same happened with me rusted bracket snapped, welded back together in 5 mins £20 bob's your uncle!
