Just got my car back from it's 50k service - £127 so not too bad.

Anyways, no major problems to report except that i got a check and advise on the gearbox gear selector shaft seal which is on it's way out, so oil is leaking slightly from the gearbox.

It's not serious, but i'll be geting it fixed soon. Not too expensive to fix. i was quoted about £40.

Not sure if it's a common fault but thought i'd mention it.

was that 50k service with vw? sounds cheap

Just got mine serviced at VW as well for £127. Must be the going rate.
On the gearbox, do you think the leak would have anything to do with the sticky gear changes/crunching experienced by many of us GTi drivers?

Mines just come back from a 60k service for a lot more and also has been told the gearbox seals are dead. They wanted a lot more than £40 so I said no at the time. Probably won't have much affect on the gear change although eventually they would because u'd have no oil
