Ok, what products do I need to paint Steelies? And don't say paint

I assume I need some kind of de-greasing wheel cleaner and other impliments.

Also, do you think painting the middle of the steel black and the outside "rim" silver would look good or silly? I'm thinking of doing it until I can afford some deep dish 14" mutha's

Easiest way is to sand-blast them and spray them up.

Where could I get them sand-blasted though?

Good old yellow pages

Don't pay more than £10 per wheel absolute max for steelies

They can do them with recyled grit and whilst they are doing something else - as opposed to alloys where they need to be done carefully

Dust down

Bare steel primer

Undercoat

and TBH you can get a fair finish with a tin of paint and a brand new quality paintbrush on steelies - esp if you want two tone

I just rubbed mine down, coated them in rust preventer paint then sprayed on a few coats of Hammerite black (both sides)

Do you think silver rims on those would look good? that's what i'm planning but don't want to look "chav".

I think it would look cool

Mine and Yoof's steels were both done with Hammerite smooth from a rattle can:





Nitromoors/Hammerite metals paint remover to strip them (and a bit of sanding to get them properly smooth). Yoof primered his first, which probably saved about a tin of Hammerite - as I had to use two rattle cans on mine with no primer. Both have a pretty decent finish and seem to be lasting well.

We did the black detailing on my dad's Jensen FF's Rostyles in Hammerite Satin last year, and it's lasted very well:

black with a silver rim is a classic

and jensens = ++good

...dya think navy blue with a dash of silver would look any good?
