Hi people,

I ahve just bought my wife a 9n Polo as we are expecting our first baby and the pram dosnt fit in the boot of our Beetle.

My question is will Audi TT comps fit the 9n ?

If you PM toXXin, he might be able to offer some thoughts. He has them, but I seem to recall him saying something about an effect on handling??

Although he's got a Leon, the hubs (PCD, ET, etc.) will be same as it's the same platform.

So, yes, they will fit, but it might not be the best idea, especially if you're going to be driving your child around on them!

The Beetle has 18' and 20' may be on there so thats why I cannot stand small wheels on the Polo.

I may try and get hold of some Barcelonas as the San Paolos that are on it arn the best looking wheel !!

Its just a frien of mine has Dark Grey powder coated comps and they look the b@ll@ks !

Agree with you 'bout the comps though. Polo-03 has been looking for a set over on the TT forum and he's sure they fit with no probs. Maybe send him a message too.

I have a new Ibiza, which is the same as a Polo underneath. I've had my TT Comps on since March and despite them looking awesome it handles like a dog I'm afraid to say, the tramlining is almost enough to make you take them off and put something else on. At the moment I am looking forward to the winter where I can put my SEAT Sport 16s on.

The reason for this is the offset. The Polos and Ibizas run ET43 whereas TT and S3 wheels run ET31-32...the comps being 32.

Another problem with them is arch clearance. I have a set of Eibach 30mm springs on order as a "safe" option, but I am still worried that they are going to sit too low and do some serious damage.

I've been looking into ways of getting them to fit but most people seem to tell me arch work is the only option. I've asked about getting the wheels or the hubs modified and everyone has refused to do this.

On the other hand, check this link out to see a 9N on Comps...it looks awesome. I'm considering emailing the guy to ask him how he's got them to fit, but I suspect it's an archwork job.

Think I will go for the Barcelonas, I have seen them for sale, just look a bit expensive to me, they are only £700 at the factory....

I have just purchased a set of brand new audi TT competition alloys cause they are the buisness!
They fit no probs so dont worry bout that!
The comps are a very light alloy and Iam guessing this might be another reason why toxxin's car handles like a dog.
I should be getting these fitting with some 205/40/17's soon along with my height adjustable suspention.
Iam looking to go about 65mm all round so fingers crossed.
Everyone I've spoke to say that the polo can take a 17x7 alloys no probs but a 17x7.5 are susposed to rub!
The comps are 7.5 wide but hey I'll take a chance, I'll up date soon.

Oh P.S. Talk to mole about wheels sizes he has 17's

wouldn't have thought 17s would be a problem as theres loads on the continent riding on 18s.

if there is a 10mm difference in offset you should be able to get some spacers (someone correct me if i'm wrong).

I was going to get some anthrite comps for my mk4 so i think you should go for it (your already aware of the cons of using big rims) and if you get the 16s you'll only wish you would have gone for the 17s

I actually found the wheels to be heavier than the standard 16s that my car ran.
Mine are fitted with 205/40/ZR17s so the diamaters are pretty much the same as the OE ones.

I would thing a 65mm drop all round on wheels that are 11mm out over standard to be a little optimistic to be honest...here is a pic of my wheels on, it shows you just how much clearance between arch and wheel there is, and it's very very little. With 30mm springs I'm worried that it's going to catch and pull the tyre off the rim.

I've only found mine to scrub on full lock on the left side, and thats with a damaged arch liner. On the other side it's fine, you'll find no internal rubbing...when it's low thats when the problems will start!

Well its too late now so Im just gonna have to wait and see how things go!
If they rub they rub I'll just make my car a little higher!

To be honest I dont know anything about your car but all I know is that
Rich (mole) has lowered his polo 9n on 17's and he has no problems!
He is 65mm up front and roughly 70mm at the back and he said that his
dont scrub EVEN on full lock!
I'll take my chance so wish me good luck!

I know all about wanting to go bigger !! I have 18' on the Beetle and wish I had gone 19'...... now I'm looking at 20'!!!:D

The Polo is just a little run about for the wife and baby as the buggy dosnt fit in the Beetle so not really gonna spend loads on the Polo. I have a few mods in mid for the Bug so it can do a bit better in the S'N'S !

The only reson I ask about the comps is a mate has some for sale and if they fitted with no real drama I would have probably had them.

Think now I will stick with some Barcellonas if I can get some cheap enough.

Polo-03, I'm glad you didn't take offence to my post...I thought you might do. You do have an advantage of having adjustable suspension, if it's too low you just raise it until it's fine.. What suspension is it? I have KW Variante 2s on my shopping list if the Eibach springs make my car look too high.

P8KSY give them a try and see what you think if thy have 40 profiles on them. If they still have the 45 profiles they won't fit and you'll have big problems trying to sell them. I had 225/45/R17s on mine, they were Contis with loads of grip, I ended up only getting £130 for them.

toxxin im sorry to say (cos i know ill upset josh ) but dont even bother with the springs go straight for the coils. i use the v2`s and there amazing (when you hook then up with a set of decent tyres and an upper strut brace then you end up scaring your self trying to break traction) also they go so so low the only lower is the HR coils
mole has the v1`s so maybe he can comment on them on a 9n

Yeah toxxin I've got the KW Varient 1 suspention the same as mole! Not fitted yet probably next week sometime. I didnt really think there was much point going for anything other than this. It will do everything i require it to do and more and felt there would be no point spending crazy money for something I'll never get my money back for. If your car is new and still under warrenty I would go for the full lot! I woudnt go for springs reason being my local car shop has the eibach springs and to be honest it doesnt look any different. My plan is to return my car to standard condition when I got to sell it then sell all my parts off. Cause lets be honest no one whats a moddified car, everyone seems to think they have had the arse ripped out of them.

Just bought my tyres today 205/40/ZR17's! Compared them next to my 14" steelies and the are exactly the same size! There is loads of room in the arches to play with Im pretty confident that my wheels will fit. I'm just slightly worried about the 7.5" wide part .

I'll update wheen everything gets fitted though.
