OK heres the problem.

I want to install an oil pressure gauge and could only find a pressure switch (the bit that scews into the engine block) in a larger thread size. I have machined the new switch to the diameter of the one that is currently fitted an what I thought was an M10 thread. Looking at it though, my M10 die is coarse compared to the original switch which seems to have a finer thread.

My question is: what is the size and or type of thread used for this sodding pressure switch

If anyone knows please let me know as its driving me insane

well any good engineering stockist should be able to get one, but as its a special size it could easily be £30 to £50, but you could always screwcut the thread in a lathe or get one off ebay.

the other thing you can do is get a brake fitting and drill that out to say 8mm and turn the sender down to 8mm and the loctite the brake fitting in place with a retainer like loctite 601 or 638
