Heya guys. Im hoping to paint my calipers this weekend. Just wondering if anyone knew wether or not i have to take them off of the car first? or is that a big no no....not really keen on playing about with the brakes lol....

If your not comfotable removing them to paint them, dont.

I wouldn't mess with something as important as the brakes if i didn't know what i was doing.

Paint them on the car...just do it more carefully lol

yea thats what i was planning on doing..if i took them off i would probably be dead by monday lol... i was just checking that leaving them on and painting them wasnt dodgy in some way........ i will be carefull!!!!!!!!!!! Honest!!!!!!!!!!

I painted my calipers on my old car and tbh it was the biggest pain in the ass ever, if you take them off you have to bleed the brakes so leaving them on is the best option. Make sure you thoroughly clean them and leave plenty of time for drying and between coats.

No don't prime them, as long as you spend alot of time cleaning them and have the correct paint it should be fine.

What colour have you gone for? Red?

yea red, i love the black and red combo!

i painted mine while they where still on, dont go driving for a good few hours though else you get brake dust embedded in the paint and have to do it again.... doh!

hmm, I might think about painting mine sometime - they are a bit faded, supposed to be black right? hehe (non gti)




p.s. once the wheels are off the car and you then put them back on, how do you know that you have tightened them up properly? is it hand tight or a certain torque value?

i take the calipers out of the carrier on my g40.gives you more room but no need to bleed them after

they are supposed to be torqued upto a certain ammount, but as i have no torque wrench i just do them up tight

well they didnt dry as quick as i thought they would.i spent today clearing up splatters of caliper paint off of my alloys lol.......

might need another coat but i will do that one day when i am not driving at all.........
