Headlights

Ahhhhhhhh, VW mechanics have destroyed my headlamp!!!!
After paying VW to replace my bulbs a month ago, i was driving along today and could smell burning. I stopped and saw that my passenger headlight was smoked up. I then removed the rummber boot behind the bulb to find that the bulb had came loose from its silly holder (never seen anything as stupid in my life - whats up with the old spring clip??) and was melting the plastic of my light away!!!
The headlamp is now ruined as all the plastic around where the bulb is has melted so i cannot get the bulb back in.
Looks like its going to be ANOTHER trip to VeeDub tomorrow
Has this happened to anyone else??

Well that takes the p***, defo their fault, they did not put the holder back properly, complain like hell and make a fuss - you want a new headlight unit out of them fitted free!

Yeah a while ago this happened to me when driving home from work, I had people flashing their lights at me all the way home not knowing what was wrong. VW replaced my whole right headlight no worries. The little metal clip holding the globe in place was not clipped.

Having been to VW several times now and spoke to people at the top, they are still not willing to replace it
They say that i have no proof that i did not remove the bulb after they fitted it then inserted it incorrectly. Not that there would be any reason to do this though.
Ahh well, looks like it will be a new light - can anyone tell me how easy it is to fit and whats involved??

you have no proof you didnt take the bulb out afterwards..but there is no proof to say that you did.......its unlikely you would need to.......this is just there get out and in my opinion absolutely appalling..u trusted them to mend your car, they bugger it up, then make you pay for their incompetence........BAH! ....... get the new light and fit it yourself using a DIY guide..tell them to p*** off.

I`ve seen headlamps on ebay m8 that may be your best bet, vw are bloody useless and don`t fill me with confidence when i need to take my car to them to get fixed

Hey, is there a DIY guide for fitting a new headlight???
I might just take it to Bedrock in Motherwell (A specialist VW place) as they know what there doing and will do a good job while not charging a bomb.

try ebay or get a new part thru VAG Parts, will be cheaper than your dealer price
fitting is not so hard, but if you not sure, you specialist place sounds like a good idea. you could supply the part or ask for cost including a geniune vw part

As vwclub.gr says you have to take the bumper off to change the light.
I've got pics if you want them on how to remove the bumper

who have u spoken to and from which VW branch?

Ohh this does'nt fill me with hope at all! My car has had 3 SETS of headlight bulbs! The last one was only last week! So I've been driving around and thinking to myself my headlight are still crap has the bulb been replaced? So after having a quick look i noticed that the bulb isnt sitting in properly and is just sitting on the chrome part of the light! After reading this am sh1ting it! I cant get my car into the dealers till next week! There gonna hear it off me when I go in! And also to add insult to injury my airbag light is on too! Could they have set it off while replacing a bulb???? I'm gonna try blame them for it
