New Install Ideas Please...

Hello Everyone,

So I need a system in my 9N. At the moment it has the factory fitted 'beta' head with the two front speakers. Nice, but not nearly nice enough.

I want to fit a headless system. There is clearly room in the double DIN space in the centre console to fit a nice little 6.4/7 inch touchscreen LCD and by my calculations I can squeeze a mini-itx motherboard behind there too so I have a sweet little computer system powering my car. Internet GPS bluetooth to the phone blahblahblah AND all my mp3s.

That bit I can pretty much handle, the part I can't really handle is the sound system to play all this music on. I need help guys. Has anyone seen or built a headless unit before? how is it done? My biggest headache at the minute is volume control, I don't want to have to click on the corner of the screen and slide a little slider up and down, i need nobs to turn...

Please, any ideas most welcome. I'd appreciate hearing what everyone thinks sounds good in a polo. New front speakers, 6x9's and a sub. Just add rears and a sub? I just don't know... :shock:

www.mp3car.com will have most of the info you need on building a system like that.

get a decent sound card- will be important for in car use. if you can find/afford one with line level outputs then all the better.

6x9 = s**t. avoid like plague.

single sub, 6.5 comps up front and the whole lot amped off one or two amps will do the job fine.

yea avoid 6x9's thats the first thing that people usually suggest but the worst thing you could do if you want a sytem to be proud of. you need to sort a budget out and then find out how much you have to spend on each item i.e 6.5" components, amps etc. and then you can start looking what you can afford, i am too in the middle of sorting out a system and waiting on the speakers to come into the country and was thinking about having a computer in my car and now i have seen the post i will have to check out that website.

yep^^ its all about sound stageing, treble up front and bass in the back, ive gone for two 12" subs rather than one purly for the fact that i got a killer deal buying two at the same time and it meant i could fill my boot with them and not have to build an install to house the amp and stuff properly, not good for shopping minde :lol:

im also playing with the idea of building some compartments for what would be the back door cards on a five door but in my case are just bleh (no idea what they are called, back side walls? :lol: )

i hope this will mean i can get even more trebel volume out of my system when its done without losing clarity
