Hiya i have just purchased a 1.4 polo 5 door P reg for a friend, but seem to have a major fault with the gearbox

when ever i drive it i seem to struggle getting into first gear

this has become a major down, the car has done 112,000 miles with full history

sometimes the only way i can select 1st gear is by grabbing second then chucking it into first with a bit of force

can anybody please please please help

Is it only 1st and 2nd causing problems or are all the gears hard to get?

In that case I'd guess that the syncromesh on first has gone. The fact that engaging second before first also points to this, as the syncromesh is supposed to help "sync" the speeds between the engine input and gearbox.

this seems to be a common porblem with slightly older cars... I dont know what the problem is sorry... who needs first use 2nd instead...

get a look at the gear linkage mate! should be good start
