In response to your PM, they're not cool at all. In fact, they are far from cool.

Yes, the Dahlback Polo has them, but that car has no heating or ventilation inside it as its a purpose built race car.

If yours is going to be the same, then you're more than welcome to, but if you're going to try and take this monstrosity off your roof next year when you want to sell it, then I wish you all the best. I'd love to see the mess it makes!

The art to modifications is to be subtle. Roof scoops look ridiculous, and it'll totally devalue your car.

roof scoops are roof mounted air intakes, usually found on rear engined rally type cars.

Close, but no cigar

Rally cars tend to have roof scoops mounted immediately behind the top edge of the windscreen to provide cooling to the interior. They tend to do this because you don't really want the side windows open in a rally car due to all that debris flying around. You can also find roof scoops in this position on track cars when the side windows have been replaced with perspex and they therefore no longer open (and the enthusiast owner didn't want to put vents in the perspex and kill the visibility).

You do, however, get roof scoops further back (typically above the line of the b-pillar) for rear engined cars to provide cooling as you say -- think of the subtle ones on the Venyron (sp?)

Anyway, if you are planning to put roof scoops on a car at least go the all the way and make them functional (for whatever purpose). Cutting a hole in your roof will of course devalue the car. On no account should you fit a "scoop" from Halfords with a solid entrance. You can expect to ridiculed for that crime against good taste.

personally id only have roof scoop if i had a purpose built rally/track car.
and as for bonnet scoops/vents i would only have one if i needed one for the cooling of the engine!

i think if you put a roof scoop on people will just laugh at you if its a slow car and doesnt fit in with the look of the car
